Currently I'm going back through Oblivion, I enjoyed the hell out of that one when I got about halfway through the main quest the first time, then my 360 sh*t the bed, and I never got to finish it. I wanted to play it before Skyrim because I'm pretty sure playing Skyrim first would make me not want to play Oblivion. Skyrim seems to be the "transition game" of the series from what I've seen, made to appeal not only to long time Elder Scrolls fans such as myself, but also gamers who'd never played one before.
Morrowind still stands as my favorite in the series thus far. Goddamn I loved that game. |

You could probably pick up the Game of the Year edition for under $20, it's pretty cheap. One bit of advice: When the mission describes the difficulty as "hard" it ain't kidding. Those missions will be close to impossible because your character level matters. Level up and you should be alright. But if you're level 6 and fighting a level 7 guy you'll really notice the difference. And also get killed.
