Post Comments Thread For: Brian Viloria Eliminates His Demons With Trilogy Win

By Cliff Rold - Almost six years after suffering his first defeat and losing his first professional title, 31-year old WBO Flyweight titlist Brian Viloria (31-3, 18 KO) of Waipahu, Hawaii, avenged the defeat with a sudden ninth round stoppage of 35-year old former two-time 108 lb. titlist Omar Nino (31-5-2, 13 KO) of Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico, on Sunday morning at the Ynares Sports Arena in Manila, Philippines.

Viloria controlled most of the bout, and had Nino hurt in the fourth, but once again found difficulty in the wily challenger. Viloria scored his fifth straight win, and third in a row against a current or former titlist, since a shocking twelfth round stoppage defeat to Carlos Tamara at Jr. Flyweight in January 2010.

Both men weighed in at the division limit of 112 lbs. for what was the rubber match in their rivalry. After scoring the upset in their August 2006 encounter, Nino came off the floor twice to salvage a draw in their immediate rematch in November of that year on the undercard of Manny Pacquiao-Erik Morales III. The verdict was later overturned to a “No Contest” after Nino failed the post-fight drug test. [Click Here To Read More]

They both are living in u.s territory but I don't know if U could consider both being Fil-americans.Well at least 1 is, & that's Viloria cause he was born in Hawaii & only seems to go to the Philippines once in a while to fight there..Now even thou Donaire has been living in the u.s for a while, he was born in Talibon, Bohol, Philippines & is constantly going there not only to fight(well he's only fought there a few times but has also fought in Puerto Rico & all over the u.s) but has been staying there for long periods visiting family & friends..If I'm not mistaken I think he even has a house there in the Philippines..So Donaire is a Pinoy living in the u.s..For example it's like Israel Vazquez, he's been living in Los Angeles for quite a while, he even has a house & a business there, yet he's not a Mexican american & he doesn't consider himself Mexican american he's just a Mexican living in the u.s..

good for Viloria
he fought lethargic the 1st time and let Nino outwork him
then he couldn't finish him in he rematch
about time he finally got rid o0f this guy
Nino had no business blocking Viloria's rise a few yrs ago
now Brian can go for a unification fight
and what's Jaro doing? is Pong demanding a rematch?

I believe both are dual citizens. Donaire was born in the Philippines and raised there, speaks two Filipino languages.

Viloria was born in Hawaii but raised in the Philippines from six months old to I think about six, his first language is Ilocano, a Filipino language spoken in the northern part of the country.

Then again, most Americans of Filipino descent would consider themselves Filipino-American.

Big props to my boy the Hawaiian Punch...when he came out of the Olympics everyone was making a Big deal about Jermain Taylor and Jeff Lacy, I liked Brian and Rocky Juarez more(too bad Rocky was in era with ATG's he couldnt get past)...I just always felt he had more potential and he is proving it...still one of the best fighters in his division..the only problem he has was going thru lulls of non activity in fights, he has all the

Good Job Brian....hopes he gets a shot at Jaro who he could beat and become lineal flyweight champion
