Post Comments Thread For: NSAC's Kizer Discusses Peterson Scandal, License Issue

As BoxingScene.com previously reported, the junior welterweight rematch between Amir Khan and WBA/IBF champion Lamont Peterson has been canceled. The fight was scheduled for May 19th at the Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas. However, Khan and Golden Boy Promotions were informed on Monday that Peterson had tested positive for “synthetic testosterone."

Both fighters agreed, per the contract terms for their rematch, to take part in a random drug testing protocol.

Peterson took testosterone pellets prior to the first fight with Khan, according to Nevada State Athletic Commission executive director Keith Kizer, citing Peterson’s attorney Jeff Fried. The fight first took place on December 10th in Peterson's hometown of Washington, DC. According to Team Peterson, the boxer's doctor gave him the pellets after his testosterone levels were found to be low. [Click Here To Read More]

Kizer: Probably not from the facts that I know. His [testosterone] level, by his doctor, was kept under 4 to 1, which is the lowest level used...some use 4 to 1 and some use 6 to 1. Even VADA uses 4 to 1, but they also use this CIR [carbon isotope ratio] test to detect synthetic testosterone regardless of your level and that's what happened here.

My understanding is that his level was 3.77 to 1...and I don't know if that was a purposeful attempt to conceal [his use] by keeping it under 4 to 1 or not. That's a question for someone else and not to me. But regardless, the CIR was able to catch it without the level being high.
You have the head of NSAC saying that their test is inadequate. That they will not have caught him. Yet you have idiotic posters -who doesn't count jabs- arguing like if NSAC testing is sufficient.

Kizer should learn from this & make that type of testing official in Nevada & every commission should do the same!!That's proof that Mayweather's insistence on Olyimpic style testing does work & is WAY MORE effective than the traditional just urine B U L L S H I T the other commission's have been doing for years!!If they wouldn't have done the type of testing they did, no one would have ever found out Peterson had taken steroids...

So folks I have to admit that I was wrong. I felt that this was an identifiable case od prescription, eand would be accepted. I thought the fight would still have taken place.

They may still decide to accept the prescription reason. They always sound so pompous, it's sometimes too much. There's no mention of the possibility of a penalty ....so far.

I thought he intimated that it being 1-3.77, and being below the 1-4 the NSAC wouldn't have caught it. The use of the extra equipment (which NSC don't have) which detected artificial testosterone was what caught it. So he's saying that NSAC can't catch synthetic testosterone unless it's above 1-4.....or 1-6.

I think they're lying when they say that before the Khan fight was the only time they used testosterone. I think they've been using it all the way leading up to being caught. How could he still have it in his system months later? And after he gets caught in April the tests done in May suddenly come negative. He clearly got off the testosterone or took some masking agent.

Plus, the Washington Atletic Commission. If he took the steroids before the fight how is it that they didn't catch him with the before and after drug tests they do on every title bout. Somethings fishy. I think they caught him. Told him about it. Then team peterson told them about the 'medical issue' and they bought it.

Anxious to see what THEY say about this.

He prob has been using it all along depending on what type of steroid it is they can last for ages, you take an injectable one and it can be detected like 18 months after, or you take something like winstrol a tablet form and its only 5 weeks, its definately fishy though but if they've been keeping the ratio at 1:4 and they've not been using the carbon isotope ratio they've maybe not picked it up.
time will tell!
