Post Comments Thread For: Mayweather Sr. on Floyd-Cotto, Retirement, Merchant Fix

Despite having a relationship that has proven itself to be chaotic and full of turmoil at times, Floyd Mayweather Sr. will always have a place in his heart for his son, Floyd Mayweather Jr.

And while the younger Mayweather found himself in a debilitating skirmish on Saturday night with Puerto Rico’s Miguel Cotto at the MGM Grand, his father was watching intently. Mayweather would emerge with a hard-fought unanimous decision and the WBA junior middleweight belt after twelve heats but was left with a bloodied nose and a bruised face that told just how taxing the fight truly was.

Default Mayweather's avoiding Martinez

All of the Mayweather's avoid to mention Martinez as a possible opponent for Floyd, why is that? Are they scared of him? Martinez is P4P #4, so Floyd can fight Cotto at 154 lbs. not Martinez, why?

It is kind of funny that Floyd would apologize to Merchant and never to his father.

I truly think that he would've advised Floyd to kept the fight in the center of the ring.

Do you not understand how weight classes work? Martinez naturally walks around at probably 168-170+. So if he were to make 154 then he will hydrate all the way back up to 168-170+. This would give him a huge size advantage over Floyd the night of the fight. Look at Ortiz for an example. He is fighting at 147 when he should really be at 154. Ortiz can make 147 but he goes all the way up to about 165 in his fight vs Floyd. These fighters can train their body to make a certain weight then rehydrate back to their natural weight over night. Apparently Chavez.Jr can rehydrate 20 pounds over night back to his natural weight. This is why Floyd vs Martinez at 154 isn't a good idea.

Floyd did win, but took a beating from Cotto. Floyd knows what will happen if he fights Martinez or Pacquiao. Floyd got a taste of Pacquiaos quality opposition. Last week Floyd was talking about fighting 5-7 more times, and now after Cotto is talking retirement. After his toughest opponent to date Floyd finally fights a hard fight and is talking retirement! I guess Cotto did put a beatin on him. Look how many wars Pacquiao has been in. Mayweather did enough to beat Cotto, but Pacquiao destroyed Cotto.

two very different fights. Cotto @ 145 (pre-Margo revenge) was still a good fighter but no where near as confident and strong mentally as he was for this fight. If you watched Miguel over the years you saw how much the Margo fight changed him. I didnt think he was going to look as good as he did, but apparently when some fighters say they feel reborn , i guess we have to believe one of them once in awhile.

Floyd Snr is a very selfish man, Floyd Jnr was right when he said that Snr expects him to bow down and thank him for all he has. Floyd Snr is all about Floyd Snr.

If I was advising Floyd I'd tell him to stay away from Martinez, Floyd is not a LMW let alone a MW, he's too big. Pacquiao on the other hand is easy work for Floyd but it will never happen so who cares.
