Post Comments Thread For: Bellew Slams Nathan Cleverly For Avoiding Their Rematch

TONY BELLEW has slammed Nathan Cleverly for refusing him a rematch.

The Scouse scrapper ends a six-month exile when he defends his British light-heavyweight title against Norwich’s Danny McIntosh at the Echo Arena in Liverpool on Friday.

But Bellew, 29, would have preferred to face Cleverly in a rematch after their thrilling WBO world title fight last October.

Wouldn't be surprised if Warren made this. Would mean Clev could avoid any real contender/challenge.

Can understand where bellew is coming from because nathan is fighting people who dont deserve to win a world title but he had his chance to beat nathan and after claiming he was going to put him to sleep he narrowly lost i personally scored it by one point to nathan who i thought won the fight on better conditioning.
I think Bellew should go after the European after he Ko's Macintosh next friday and that will put him in the picture again not just with nathan but all the governing bodies.

It was a close fight - had Cleverly winning by two.

At the end of the day, he didn't have to give Bellew a chance but he did and he did in his hometown.

Bellew had a chance to win a World Title and he had the fight in his Hometown, he didn't take it and he lost.

If he's good enough he'll be at that level in a few fights and will get the chance again.

Cleverly - his hometown fight only held 5,000 - they needed a poor name for everyone to make money off that one.

Cleverly hadn't fought in Cardiff for 4 years, as World Champ he deserved a homecoming.

His only option now is unification against - Shumenov, Cloud, Hop/dawson or his mandatory.

All tough fights and a step up.

Personally, he's not ready for Hop/Dawson regardless of what his promoter thinks - step him up in levels and put him in with Shumenov or Cloud first. Its a unification with something to gain and he can take on his mandatory after - who in many ways imo is a tougher fight then Shumenov or Cloud.

First his mandatory, and then Shumenov. That would make a lot of sense. I would love to see Cleverly-Shumenov. Erdei or Diaconu would be great, too. That's the level he should be fighting at now.

Warren said that it wouldn't hurt Cleverly's career if he lost to Hopkins because he's young and can rebuild. Perhaps Warren knows that he's going to lose, so why not make the loss a big payday. But as a fan, I want a more evenly matched fight.

Agreed Jed - Cleverly can't go from the level he's at to Hopkins, it's crazy.

Sumenov, Cloud - they're winnable fights and comfortably if Cleverly boxes uses a jab and reach.

Get the mandatory out the way after that - as that's a tougher fight in my opinion, get more experience and something to gain first in a unification and then take on the mandatory that's a tougher fight and nothing to gain.

Unification will bring quality money and raise his profile much higher for future big fights.

If he gets those two or three out the way - then lets see where he is and look a the big dogs.

Crazy looking at Hopkins now.
