Default Restoration Project with an Amateur Boxer Video Training Vlog

I was presented with a challenge of trying to sort Isak out a little bit. He has 14 fights in the Junior Division in Norway. Norway has decent amateur boxing but nothing like the level I experienced come up in America or in some of my travels. Isak's head coach like most European trainers style is to beat the computer. So they don't really sit down on their punches and they have an interesting technique when throwing certain shots. They spend a lot of time moving sometimes unnecessarily. He like a square stance also. So my job and challenge over the next couple of months twice a week is to make isak less robotic, faster, stronger, way better timing and reaction time, and more smarter in regards to the sport of boxing. I have to do all that while keeping the head coach happy. I have to accomplish those goals while working around the coaches style. Here are some clips for how I go about it. Mind you all this is New to Isak. He's doing a great job so far.

I think you should reread what I wrote. That's what training is for. You don't develop a 16 year old with bad habits from his head coach in six sessions. Key word Training. It's a process. What looked good to you.

first off, i love your threads barry, just a question
the punching with the weights, those are tiny dumbells, not unlike the ones i used when i first started boxing(at 16), and even i had more snap and extentions with them on, why not have him extend his arm more? i understand exploding you might be afraid he might hurt himself(even though i always did but the trick is to not relax your arm and allow the weight to pull your joints apart but anyway)

I understand that...but when i'm re-worken with a kid with already bad habits...i beat into him the bad habits...any and everytime i see the foot drop I point it out...harder to break the bad habits then teach a newbie not doin it right...one can let a newbie slide a bit but the one doin it for a while needs to kept bein reminded cause he's prob not aware its jus his natural way....I wasnt tryna critizice anything sometimes as a trainer i focus on a few things and forget about others unknowingly due to the extreme focus on the first few certain things....I'm tho well aware of what training is...ur not the only one whom coaches people on these forums.....Ur not the only successfull person doing it either based on "your personal ways".....all in all I think he looked good..like u said he is young and is learning a new process way of fighting...he will be good, I really like the turnover of his hips on his str8 punch

It depends on what we are working on. At A Million Styles Boxing I like the athletes to be able to throw punches at a distance and when a guy is close. I don't believe in boxing athletes in. If that worked everybody that trained would be a champion. I use 1-1 1/2 kg dumbells or 3 lbs only

I don't coach anyone on these forums. I have a video blog. I share videos and my blogs. That's all. I don't have all the answers. Just my track record.

Again you can't sort everything over night. Again I train him twice a week. The other 3 days he is with his normal coach. Everything comes slow. It's a process I'm familiar with and if you do a little homework all the amateurs I have done this with are now amateur champions in their country. Literally as Nick Frese from Holland just won the German Championships this weekend. That's what A Million Styles boxing is about.

I told you to reread the post because as a trainer especially if you read it you would know exactly what the situation is and would look at the videos differently. The kid is not a pro he is a student that trains in Norway.....with a trainer that comes from a very robotic, stiff, flat footed style....they don't jump rope ever.. so yes I can point out 3000 things he is doing wrong...That's what training is for.

So sure your right he is doing stuff wrong.... It'll get better. Thanks for the views

you'll just be beating your head against the wall if he is still training with his other coach. 2 days a week will take a tremendous amount of time to correct his mistakes especially if he works with the other coach more than you each week. It takes day after day after day and week after week of drilling to get these kids working properly. Having 2 trainers who don't work together rarely works out.......Rockin'
