Post Comments Thread For: Salido vs. Juanma Rematch: The Pre-Fight Report Card

by Cliff Rold - It wasnít a total shock, even coming as a pretty sizable upset. Juan Manuel Lopez entered the ring on April 16, 2011, as a heavy favorite for a reason. He had better speed. He had more pop. He didnít have 11 losses.

He was busted up in eight rounds.

As good as he can be offensively, Lopez had danced on the head of a pin more than once before his first loss at the hands of Orlando Salido. Rogers Mtagwa pushed him to the brink and he held on. He walked through serious fire from the great Rafael Marquez. He hit the deck hard against Bernabe Concepcion.

He finally fell off the pin.

Lopez knows what it means to be a winner. Once, heís known loss. Now, we find out if he can play avenger. Letís go to the report card. Forgotten in the wake of defeat was that Lopez had success early against Salido. He won most of the first four rounds, even as Salido applied steady pressure. The Puerto Rican southpaw has a good jab and can box when he needs to. [Click Here To Read More]

Pretty much what I see happening. I envision another great fight, but Salido starts to gas around the 8th and Lopez gets him out of there. Also see Lopez leading on the cards this time too. Salido fought the best fight he could have in that first fight. That's incredibly hard to do twice at his age and with the miles he has on the odometer.

Pride, youth, and desire is not going to help Lopez to avoid Salido's offensive onslaught.

Lopez is an inside fighter, but Salido's inside fighting does more damage to Lopez than vice versa. Lopez tried to keep the fight on the outside in the first fight, but Salido's tactical pursuit (footwork and pressure), angles, defense, accurate power punches and body work forced Juanma to fight an inside fight. As soon as Salido started to outmanuever Lopez on the outside, Lopez' deficiencies (lack of defense and wide punching technique) were exposed.

Juanma can try to keep the fight on the outside again, but his ineffective outside fighting against Salido's ability and tactics will put Lopez' deficiencies on display once again.

The first fight's outcome did not arrive by happenstance. Salido against a faster (though not as powerful) and physically stronger, but stylistically similar fighter to Lopez (Robert Guerrero at 126) gave me enough insight to predict the upset. Even his fight against Gamboa, he put his dedicated body work on display and eventually had Gamboa close to a loss (his body work and tactics had us watching the slowest version of Gamboa we've seen to date during the middle rounds), if it weren't for Gamboa's excellent stamina and confidence (he got a second wind), Salido would have 2 upsets of undefeated fighters.

Lopez looked his best on the rare occasions when he backed Salido up so that might be his best chance to get an early KO because Salido is to strong and savvy to allow that to happen too often. Lopez might look like he's controlling the fight, but Salido will be the one doing damage. Salido by late round KO.

Orlando Salido is more hungry to win!

He's got that fighter instinct to just counter punch and pull the trigger!

Salido can take Juan Ma's best. Salido is going to beat him again. Hopefully it doesn't go to the score cards.

I agree with this article. I don't see Juanma knocking Salido out tho, but I do see him winning a comfortable decision. But with that said, I am very well prepared to eat my words if need be in a few hours

Bro, in your comparison to his fight with Robert Guerrero you failed to mention one very, very important factor. He tested positive for anabolic steroid use!!
