Junior flyweight Luis Lazarte says that he had nothing to do with the riot that broke out last Saturday night in Buenos Aires, Argentina. After Filipino contender Johnreil Casimero stopped Lazarte in the tenth round to capture the IBF's interim title - a shower of chairs and bottles were thrown into the ring by a gang of fans. A angry mob rushed inside the ring and attacked Casimero and his handlers. Even some of the officials, including referee Eddie Claudio, suffered injuries in the riot.

Lazarte may be able to appeal the lifetime ban, but I thought the basis for this punishment was not the rioting, nor the dirty tactics, but his threats on the life of the referee.

Regarding the threats, sure, he can claim "heat of the moment," but how many points have been deducted from how many other boxers because of repeated fouls, and how many other boxers actually threaten the referee? I wonder if Lazarte has simply gotten accustomed to not being punished for fouling, and simply threw a fit when he finally was.

Whatever the basis for the ban, I say: Good riddance. You will not be missed.

i agree with lazarte, it was'nt his fault...

what makes me wonder is that, how come that a dirty fighter like lazarte got a lot of diehard fans?...and what they did is a bad image for argentina boxing...

This dude is really classless. It has been positively identified that the man in green cap w/ a PERONISTA written at the back of his shirt was his 22 yrs old son. If Lazarte have been banned before bacause of his five DQ's on his record this riot could have not happened. Now Lazarte will retire w/ a very bad reputaion to his record and Argentine boxing. His resume will be marked 'NEVER TO RETURN'

The whole Lazarte Team should never be allowed close to a boxing ring. They should all be sent to jail

Him and his whole family should be banned permanently from boxing as punishment. The ref should be suspended for not stopping the fight earlier, the commision that licensed him should be fined or investigated, and they need to reeducate refs. I saw the solis fight and that was disgusting to watch. this guy should never have been allowed to fight. He is a classless, dirty bum. He prob shortened his opponents lives with those rabbit punches, low blows, and tackles. This was embarassing to see. In this day and age this type of crap happens.
