How did Cesar Cuenca become WBO #1 challenger (serious question)

I have no idea who this guy is so I had to look him up and see what I can find on youtube. His record listed on boxrec makes him appear to be a bum beater. His best win is probably against Alex De Jesus in 2009. His last fight was a guy who was 31-21.

So...anyone know what he's done to be ranked so highly by the WBO? What am I missing here? Educate me on this guy, again I have no idea who he is.

Here is the WBO's top 10. I mean seriously, how can you have Cuenca above half these guys??

    CHAMPION TIMOTHY BRADLEY

    1. Cesar Rene Cuenca (Latino)
    2. Danny Garcia
    3. Mike Alvarado
    4. Javier Castro (Latino Int.)
    5. Sergey Fedchenko (WBO Europe)
    6. Lucas Matthysee
    7. Ruslan Provodnikov (Int-Cont)
    8. Mercito Gesta
    9. Karim Mayfield (NABO)
    10. Humberto Soto
    11. Kendall Holt USA
    12. Alberto Mosquera
    13. Rosbel Montoya
    14. Chad Bennett (Oriental Int.)
    15. Solomon Egberime (Oriental)

So I guess the logical answer is that the WBO is banking on a fourth Pacquiao/Marquez fight and Pac has the WBO belt so, this is like a free easy fight for Marquez handed by the WBO to give him a title?

The W.B.O. is probably trying to keep Danny Garcia away from J.M.M. He's neither old enough nor small enough.

he's the WBO latino champion. and the WBO website explains it as "Won an 8-round decision over Juan J. Dias on Mar. 26, 2011. Won an 8-round decision over Mauricio Pereira on Aug. 30, 2010."

What exactly does that explain? And what does being a Latino Champion have to do with being ranked #1 at 140?

Juan Jose Dias record at the time of the fight was 11-10-4.

Mauricio Ariel Pereira was 15-0-1 but fought bigger bums then Cuenca has. So neither of those fights really say anything. At least not to me.

More of the bs that plagues this corrupt sport. These different organizations have been slowly killing this sport. I can't even blame the cash cows (floyd, manny, jmm, donaire, etc.) for taking easy fights and not fighting some of the fights that should happen. Most will take the easier more financially sound route. Not to take away from the resumes of pac or floyd but if it was like basketball, or football this sport would be much better. 1 fights 2 if 2 is not available then 3 if not then 4 not ok we will make the 500th best jlw in argentina the #1 contender. To hell with these fake belts.....This sport needs reform, big time.

a lot of those organizations hold their regional 'champions' in high regard.
upon further investigation...cuenca is a TWO-TIME WBO latino champion!

thats the only reason i can come up with haha.

haha that's a great accomplishment! I can only hope JMM fights the European champ after and the Native American champ after that!
