Default Help with Form on Jabs

Hey everyone i need some advice I have been training for years as a wrestler and weightlifter and recently ive decided to learn boxing. i am not trying to become a real boxer but id still like to have correct form.

I made a little video of how i jab can you please tell me what iam doing correct or wrong. I am not using power just trying to get my technique right.
Would greatly appreciate any input.

Im not an expert, but I'll try to help.

It seems like you're squared up too much. Keep your left shoulder in front. Don't twist your body into the jab.(I think it is because you are squared up, which is also causing your head to turn which you shouldn't do) When you're doubling your jab, you're not bringing it back enough for the second jab. Also your right hand/arm should not move when throwing the jab. Keep it lined up to the body.

"Im not an expert, but I'll try to help. "

same here...

I'd add make more vicious step forward with your front foot. Bent your knees even lower.

youre turning the shot over nice, I assume you touch the bag like its made of porcelain because the mount couldn't take full blows, if not then stop hitting like a girl.

You need to visualize this bag as an opponent. Now if you would stand that close to your opponent I would grant you the title of biggest balls in the world because man your right on the frontline standing as close as you are.

just put your arm out fully extended at 90' againt the bag. then take about 1/2-3/4 of a step back and then get into fighting position where you stand. Now when you jab just take a 45' step to your left and throw the jab at the same time. Your left foot and left fist will fire at the same time. The foot and fist as well will make contact at the same time. Rember to turn the shot over as you were before.

The step back gives you breathing room. When you decide to attack you step forward into the frontline warfare, you don't just stand there as bombs are being thrown at you. Take the step to your left when you throw the jab. You'll find yourself working the bag in contours rather than straight line back and forth. It is essential to stay away from working straight forward and straight back when the fists are flying freely.........Rockin'

Rockin should one push of hard with the back foot when jabbing or is it more about kicking hard with front foot?

you barely lift the left foot and push from the back, that's where power is easily generated from. You could add in a slight and quick turn of the hips for more power if you're fast enough. The left foot glides acrossed the top of the canvas, its main purpose is to be quick and subtle in movement while waiting to catch the weight that is coming forward......Rockin'

ok I have to use you some more u seem like u know some **** about

so if my weight was 50/50 that front foot would only catch 50% of my weight when it lands and that's why the jab can't be a power shot?

do you perhaps know why does Manny jab a heavy bag with his thumb almost in an upright position? like totally incorrect.....?

step/push with your back foot
that's where the power is
the front foot moves out because that's how you balance
it doesnt kick forward to generate power. that's what your back (dominant,) foot should be doing (generating the power,) with a hard step // push

you should try and move your target with coordinated movement off of your upper body that works off of that step. i will then slide back to home to maintain your balance

if you jab correctly you should feel your will feel inclined to circle to the left.

good guys to watch are heavyweights
they use the jab to more effect than guys in the weight classes, beause it's so much heavier and the fights are fought from so much further away

holmes
liston
wladimir klitschko
ali
great jabs

in the weight classes:
hearns
quartey
oscar de la hoya
great jabs

I'm a believer in form following function..Start putting some stink behind that jab and your body will start to do the things in needs to do to make it more powerful..I like to use the axe as an example of this..There are no schools of thought, clubs or books on how to use an axe yet everyone who uses one a lot develops the same posture and swing..because it's the most efficient and powerful way to do the work..Or bodies are smarter than our minds in figuring stuff like that out..

that's great stuff guys!

one thing that does not ring true to me is that your shoulder should smack your chin every time you jab.....it's what they teach but I think it's bs.

anyway hailmary5150 keep us posted with new videos cause you suck
