Post Comments Thread For: Eloy Perez To Open Camp For Adrien Broner on Jan. 9

BoxingScene.com was on hand one of Eloy "The Prince" Perez's (23-0-2) recent workouts. The undefeated fighter faces WBO super featherweight champion Adrien Broner (22-0) on February 25th in St. Louis, MO. The fight will be televised by HBO. Perez's assistant trainer Sam Garcia advised BoxingScene that Perez's official camp will open on January 9th in Oakland, CA. Contender Mike Dallas (17-2) and super bantamweight Ricky Lopez (7-1) will be brought in as sparring partners to help Perez get ready for Broner's speed.

This is an interesting clash of styles...

Broner is a strict counter puncher, almost seems as if he dislikes leading. He's a good counter puncher, but he's in trouble as soon as he can't time his opponent often enough. De Leon's footwork and southpaw stance threw his timing off and Broner adjusted to it (by leading instead of waiting for counter punching opportunities), but went back to what wasn't working too well after a couple rounds. Broner's technique, skills, and talent are some of the best in boxing, but he lacks ring IQ.

Perez is almost the opposite because he seems eager to attack. He's quick and has good footwork; he might throw Broner's timing off, but Perez' stature leaves him open to being countered by taller fighters and Broner is going to have the size advantage.

If Broner doesn't stop Perez early (and he can), he's going to be in all sorts of trouble because in and out footwork fighters as quick as Perez are tough to catch with hooks and that's Broner's #1 option (see MAB's lack of success against Pacquiao for an example). Perez is a live underdog in this one.

Perez has deceptive power. He doesn't have a lot of KO's but has had some highlight reel KO's. He has been sittting down on his punches in the last couple years and that has produced some serious damage.

He is going to be the one backing up Broner but that will give Broner some opportunities as well. Broner is going to learn what it is like to be hit very hard inspite of the fact that he doesn't respect Perez's KO record. This fight is a 50/50.

Perez puts a lot of pressure on, has power, and throws an assortment of punches. Even though one or both guys have a counter-punching mode, this fight will be exciting because neither guy is going to give up their unbeaten record easily.
