Cotto quit??? The man was getting hit with bricks!!! What was he suppose to do? Go out like McClellan? There are some real dumb asses on boxingscene. I've been watching fights for 25 years and have seen a many fighter really quit. But under the conditions that both Cotto and McClellan were facing, that's not quitting. A coward quits because mentally or physically they're not strong enough to endure a certain level of pressure that they are being exposed to. Gerald was facing a near fatal medical situation and Cotto was facing a brutal criminal attack. All bets are off in both situations.
I don't understand it either.

**** off with this 'he quit' nonsense you bunch of morons. He was a warrior out and out. He had already been battered into brain damage at that stage. The original man that entered the ring wasn't even there anymore by round ten, he all but died in there and then some bums on an internet forum who probably never set foot in the ring accuse him of quitting. lol just lol

Actually, there's no "technically" to it.

You quit the basketball team. You quit your job. You quit smoking. Victor Ortiz and Roberto Duran quit.

When you're literally facing death and can no longer fight, you simply lose.

He didn't walk out of the ring......quitting to me is when you don't have the HEART to continue.

Cotto didn't quit against Margarito
Klistchko didn't quit against Byrd
McClellan didn't quit against Benn

They were physically unable to continue being competitive, period. Now if Cotto got hit in the 1st or 2nd round and took a knee/10 count (when his was still fresh) then I call THAT quitting.

Ahh the difference is in semantics. The people that are saying that Cotto quit probably define quitting as:

Fighting until you are physically unable to continue. Period.

I think Cotto quit but I think that was more than justified, does that make him weak... Hell no! For Miguel, his health and his family are more import than his job.

See, I didn't want to have to do this, but due to a few non knowledgable boxing fans running around NSB acussing fighters like Cotto of quitting, I was forced to do this.

If you re-watch this fight and compare it to the Cotto fight, it's almost two identical fights. Cotto was stopped in the 11th and McClellan in the 10th. Both took 2 knees and were called QUITTERS!!

See, it's fake boxing fans like this that give the sport a bad name. If you haven't been in a fight, or don't know what it's like to be in that situation, then you need to think twice about calling someone a quitter and having no idea what you're talking about.

McClellan and Cotto both fought til they couldn't fight anymore. Learn the difference.

Just my thoughts.
Fu(ken idiot!!!! Two way different situations. The Gman took a knee because of neurological interference happening in his brain. Its like someone getting knocked out or being too stun to be in commission. Cotto took a knee because the Pu$$ie was tired lol....So not only is Cotto a champion who requests a catch-weight at a weight his champion at, but is also a champion to give up his title because of him being too tired. lol....ATG PU$$IE A$$ CHAMPION.

Blame his corner for not throwing in the towel earlier. Blame his management for having him fight at 168 when he was probable a natural cruiserweight.

But the fact is he quit and for good reason
