I have always thought about tyson as a kid in a mans body. He needed Cus to really take control of his life and once Cus was gone, like he said the people that were left didn't take care of him.

He didn't come from the best background and he's not the smartest guy in the world. His life was a whirlwind and he lost control.

Mike Tyson was and is a polarizing figure and it's amazing to see the transformation of this ferocious beast to this older, calmed down man who is looking to make money by entertaining people.

It sort of sad to be honest, kind of like when Joe Lewis used to be the doorman in the Las Vegas Casinos in the 60's.

one story I've heard over the years is that Tyson went back to Brooklyn and was planning to have some of his friends come back to Catskill with him and take care of Teddy, which doesnt seem out of the realm of possibility to me...I'd say that Tyson was prety much on the mark with his synopsis...you'd have to think that behind closed doors, the two of them alone, that Teddy may not be as aggressive towards Mike as he would be if there was a crowd watching them...not that many others would be, either...

Tyson was stronger than most men at 15. A gun to the head was probably the best dissuader.

Yeah that doesn't sound surprising at all, Ice. I have to say, I get Atlas's psyche...I understand why he feels so bitter and how that manifests in some questionable ways (not that I agree with it at all). His book is one of my favourites.

But I get the feeling that Tyson would probably liked to have been on good terms with Teddy now, to put that behind him, but because Teddy has so little forgiveness, Mike can only react with rage to that barrier.

Good post. Also, I often wonder how much of Mike's 'transformation' is natural and how much is an act. Tyson is a sponge for information. Similarly to how he tried to emulate fighters and how they carried themselves, he also understands the 'civilised' persona (whatever that is).

Anyway, I'm glad to see him in a good enough place.
