I read Taking on Tyson, which was made in 2006.
He was helping out to a center that kept people in check and off drugs. Providing counselling, a helping ear, etc. Right for him to do so too, after the Tyson fight he drove to LA and into South Central. He visited a crackhouse and didn't sleep for 2 weeks whilst he was there. Heading into LA he was even in a carlane where gang members where robbing people but they noticed him cos of the Tyson fight and let him leave with his valuables intact. He had been off the drugs for over 10 years when he book was published, hope he still is. In the book he went to a boxing match and people still asked for his autograph ![]() |

Pinklon Thomas was a very good fighter when he had his head on straight. A true throwback to the fighters of the golden era of 60-70's heavyweights. I remember Angelo Dundee saying before his fight with Mike Tyson "Mike is a great fighter but not on the level of a Pinklon Thomas. When he is focused and in shape he's one of the best"
Obviously we watched Mike Tyson dismantle him, but I look at that as more a testament to the greatness of Mike Tyson and not that Pinklon Thomas was not a good fighter. |
