SURPRISE title-shots are commonplace in boxing. With injuries, contractual disputes and many other factors occurring with regularity - it rarely strikes a chord when a last-minute challenger is called in to face an opponent of much higher stature.

No way you can possibly defend this as a title fight. John's opponent is ranked 127th at junior featherweight by boxrec and lost to a fighter with an 0-2-5 record last year. He's not in the same division AND he's not very good. For those saying nobody will fight John, did the 126 junior featherweights ranked above Iannazo and the entire featherweight division turn John down? Kind of doubt it.
John has been living off his Marquez fight for five years. His best defense since then was against a guy (Juarez) who had lost four previous title fights. He may be the best at 126 but he's done nothing to prove it since 2006 |
