  • John Mugabi

Mugabi had been a terrific light-middleweight, a world champion. Even when he moved up to middleweight, he gave Marvin Hagler a tough time - but he came into this fight all torn up, upstairs and down. He had been in a real bad car accident not long before and the rising Terry Norris had knocked him out in the first round of his prvious fight at light-middleweight. Mugabi would end up fighting in Australia years later for derisory sums

I've seem his fights with Hagler, McClellan and Norris. Can anyone recommend some other fights?

The fight against Rene Jacquot just because the announcers were so funny, they were like, "Rene Jacquot has no chance to win this fight. He'll be lucky not get hurt." etc..

That quote is laughable, Mugabi was C level fighter who quit against Hagler.

Th entire post wasn't bad but calling Mugabi a terrific light middleweight is.

I agree. Mugabi never beat a top contender. His entire reputation came from losing to a fading Hagler.

I think his reputation came from being 25-0 w/ 25 KOs when he fought Hagler.

Yup, and somehow a "faded" Hagler beat him to the canvas and kept him there.

Mugabi did NOT quit, any more than Arguello quit in the Pryor rematch.

They both knew they were beaten.
