I believe anyone can train Dawson. But the best type of trainer for Dawson is someone who can push him to stay focus and train hard every fight. That's why Floyd Mayweather Sr was such a good fit for him, but Dawson has a tendency to switch trainers often.

But Emanuel Steward is kind of like Floyd Mayweather Sr. he will push Dawson and make sure he trains and fights hard every fight. But at the end of day it's all on Dawson, he has to be motivated to win and want to win, he certainly is in this fight.

Dawson is a better athlete than Jermain Taylor was when he beat Hopkins twice. Combine that with a Chad being a southpaw, Emmanuel Steward as trainer and Bernard being 46, Dawson has to be the overwhelming favorite.

I used to really root for Bernard.....but after all his racist comments, I could care less if he wins or loses anymore. Another thing I noticed, Bernard has consistently played mind games with all his opponents in order to break them down mentally. BUT the worse thing I noticed about him is after he wins, he pretends to be all humble and credit his opponents. When he loses against guys like Calzaghe and Taylor, he still acts like a b1tch and can't accept his loss like a man. Bernard CANNOT act as gracious in defeat as some of the great fighters that lost to him.

I've said it before and I'll say it again:

No fighter aside from taller than average HWs will enjoy long term success under the tutelage of Emanuel Steward.

Dawson is setting himself up for a loss messing with Manny. I know he's got all kinds of praise and accolades but I've seen the hand of this man turn talented fighters into stiff robots who overly-rely on their jabs and have no real answer to full on straightforward aggression.

Lewis and the Klitschkos have something that other fighters don't have: Height and longer than average arms to create cushion from which to work from. I've watched as Steward tried to make Prince Naseem fight like Lewis and the results were disastrous.

Only a few stay with Steward long term and there is a very good reason for that. Aside from the HW giants, he's never had another Tommy Hearns, or anything close to him. And even then Hearns was tall for a WW.

We'll see. I really wish Dawson the best and hope that I am wrong.

I agree with your post. I know a pro fighter who trained with Steward and said he really didn't teach anything but a basic 1-2.
Mayweather sr had Dawson looking the best. I feel Muhammad was good for Chad as well and telling him the right things its just Chad didn't listen. I really don't like Dawson anymore cause he seems to switch trainers to take blame off of him for not performing the way he should have. That is signs of b!tchassness to me though. I will be rooting for Hopkins and I want to see what Dawson does with Steward if he loses

Good post.

However, I don't think that switching trainers is necessarily a sign of "b!tchassness" though.

Some fighters know that they have all the talent in the world. When a fighter that has natural talent loses, he wants to believe that his team didn't do enough homework on his opponent to come up with a competent game plan. In many instances this is true.

Sometimes a fighter just wants to shake things up. Sometimes a fighter feels as though his team sent him in the fight unprepared. While other times, a fighter realizes that a particular trainer has taken him as far as they can go together and he needs someone to offer something new to add to his versatility.

Some trainers are so confident in their own ability to train a fighter that they forget that not every fighter will be successful fighting being trained in the same mold. They train all their fighters the same way in the same style.

That why I made those comments about Steward. There is nothing fresh about what he brings to fighters. He fits the old adage "If all you have is a hammer then everything will eventually begin to look like nails".

Then you have fighters like Paul Williams who remain loyal out of a sense of obligation to their own detriment. Williams' comments after the Lara fight were about as ridiculous as one can get. Williams blamed his performance on his own "laziness" during a fight where he was walking his opponent down in every round, only to be caught over and over with the same overhand left.

Paul Williams is in denial. He is a loyal and likable guy, but this is business. His team, after having seem him exposed by Carlos Quintana and later on by Sergio Martinez in their first fight, did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to fix that flaw in Paul's defense. Team Punisher sent him into a rematch with a man who found a home for his haymakers in the first fight without making any noticeable changes or adjustment. Paul Williams suffered his first KO loss because of this.

Being the loyal guy that he is, Paul Williams pushed forward with the same team who offered him the same game plan as before. The result? He got a gift decision over Lara, who beat him bloody. In the post fight interview he said, and his team behind confirmed, that he WOULD NOT CHANGE A THING!!!!

So my fellow fan, changing trainers is not always a bad option or a characteristic of "b!tchassness".

I'm enjoying this discussion.

He didn't talk ***** at all leading up to Kelly Pavlik. He was respectful and unusually quiet. He kept saying he'll prove everyone wrong and "you'll see" type of stuff, but he didn't talk negatively towards pavlik at all.

The times he talks the most *****, the times when he says the most outrageous stuff, are the times he needs to sell the fight. So he's going to say a lot of stuff coming up since we all know Dawson aint selling *****.

He's also always admitted he lost to roy jones fair and square. In the other fights (Taylor x 2, calzaghe, pascal draw), all of those you can make a strong case he won, so in his mind of course he's going to complain.

his comments were not bad man why cant a brotha love his people? All races are into their selfs and their culture but when a black or white man does it there is so much tension, and he had a reason to feel robbed vs taylor and calzaghe won imp but it could have went either way he did not just get beat up!
