Post Comments Thread For: Team Rubio Eyes Purse Bid, Sergio Martinez Options

Promoter Reginaldo Kuchle of Promociones del Pueblo, who handle Marco Antonio Rubio, is willing to take part in a mandatory purse bid for a shot at WBC middleweight champion Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. Rubio is the mandatory challenger for the title, but WBC Diamond champion Sergio Martinez was granted the first available opportunity to face Chavez. The fight between Martinez and Chavez was ordered to take place in the first quarter of 2012.

Martinez being the emeritus champion will always have 1st shot at the WBC title. Floyd Mayweather is champion emeritus at 154, Mikkel Kessler is the champion emeritus at 168.

as long as they are boxing they will always have the 1st shot at a WBC title.

Chavez jr will never face Martinez, he'll vacate the title and Arum will spin some BS excuse. Chavez is moving up or down so he can't fight at 160.

Chavez jr is a total joke. guys who actually had to come up the hard way get screwed over by this b!tch made chicken.

it should have been Martinez vs Rubio anyway

Arum will delay delay delay and then when he sees Martinez is aging and has a bad performance, he puts Chavez in the ring against him and JCC Jr. undeservedly adds a name to his resume.

maybe so but Rubio has knocked off some halfway decent fighters recently so if Martinez wants to take the middleweight champ Bernard Hopkins route and defend his title as many times as he can then he will likely cross paths with Rubio eventually.

okay, but what is rubio doing for the remainder of the year? martinez has barker, and chavez has 2 fights. hopefully rubio doesn't sit out for the rest of the year. that would be great though, rubio/martinez for the vacant belt. hopefully chavez takes on martinez, at least he can say he stepped up.

Martinez is looking better with every performance. 50 year old Martinez still kicks Chavez's ass.

Rubio's victory over Lemeiux showed that he can take a punch, has defense, can devise an effective strategy, put that strategy into action, and carry a deadly punch.

Though he was beaten by Pavlik, Rubio is no joke and would be a tough fight for anyone. In my opinion, Rubio defeats Junior and gives Martinez a full twelve rounds of hard action.

Ya people sleep on Rubio but hes a solid fighter who always comes to fight and he has some heavy hands. I think Maravilla might be too fast for him, but if he catches Sergio he can hurt him and possibly finish him. I wouldnt mind if Chavez Jr fights Rubio either but that probably wont happen.

Everyone so quick to see Chavez get murdered, but hes gonna fight 2 times against people who have challenged for world titles before so its not that bad at least there people who could possibly pull an upset making it easier for Sergio to get his title back. I dont think Chavez will ever fight Sergio he will either lose his title before or vacate.

Still dont mind seeing Chavez fight its not like he doesnt try or just come to collect a paycheck. If you were in the same situation you would do it exactly the same. If he doesnt fight Rubio/Martinez by the first quarter of 2012 then that would be a shame. I would like to see Chavez try to unify against Pirog/Golovkin/Geale I think Geale would be the most possible one and that would be a credible opponent.

Rubio / Martinez would be an excellent action fight -- would consider Rubio a live underdog who could pull off a big upset if Martinez has an off night
