JOE, Arum spelled out the contract clearly and won in Law. Donaire should have told his wife to stay out of his business and fought Moreno as arranged. This was the fight he'd been looking for. I blame Oscar with his wheedling, enticing fighters who are little more than kids when it comes to brains.
The Contract terms were to have been UP on June 26th of this year. But they were extended by 2 six month periods because of Donaire's medical suspensions.
THEN....Arum clearly stated that the contract contained an option of another YEAR, which Top Rank would activate, which made Donaire's contract last until the end of June 2013.
SO...after Oscar meddled in his usual unclever way, it LOST Donaire a big money fight already arranged, plus big legal fees, plus staying idle with no future.
Then he got smart, with another 3 year contract, which will last until July 2014, most likely also with an extension option, which is ordinary business common sense. It can work for the benefit of BOTH.
Marvin Hagler stayed with Top Rank his whole career, and Manny Pacquiao will likely also do the same thing until retirement.
