Why, that is my question? Push up are a poor mans chest exercise, and boxing gyms are very poor from my experiences so why not promote the push up as the best thing going, if it's you're only resource. Look your chest is being overloaded when benching activating far more muscle fibers than push up simply because motor unit recruitment is based upon load placed on it. What do you plan to achieve by dong 1000 pushups? As an athlete you have to use your time wisely, and why do a minimal return movement when you could do a maximum return movement that will continue to return maximally?

Lifting weights is about strength.

Boxing is about endurance.

Yeah but what forms of metabolic fitness is necessary for boxing? Answer that question and you are tha mutha****in man! But since you actually said weights are about strength and boxing is about endurance I'm sure you don't even know what the hell metabolic fitness is! And that my friends is why boxing is the most uneducated sport in the whole entire world! People just spewing hearsay like it's fact, promoting misseducation, and lies. Walking is about strength, moving your arm is about strength, even your vocal cords are muscles and they're strength is what produces vocal sound and idividual voice patterns. So how is boxing somehow not about strength? So a paralyzed individual who has no muscular strength or neuro-muscular functions for that matter should be able to box just fine right? Do you know what actually causes movement? I'll answer that question for you. Muscle pull against the bones with the aid of other connective tissues causing body segments and articular surfaces to move fluidly. This is not hearsay this is fact. Lifting weight is about preparing muscles for the rigors of sports training, helping to protect joints, tendons, and ligaments from injury, and actually increasign tensile strength of those connective tissues, as well as increasing bone strength and bone mass, which I imagine could prevent a boxer from experiencing things like torn bicep/tricep muscles, injuries to the rotator cuff, and lower leg injuries some boxers seem to be prone to. Not to mention teaching you muscles to contract more forcefully and powerfully(strength x speed), combines with good skills and proper mechanics this athelete would be very effective from what I've learned. Learn what your talking about before speaking, because you are letting some other idiot's theory become your own making you look like an idiot as well.

I still stand by what I stated earlier. I do not know what you mean by metabolic fitness. If this is the "new" thing, than why are none of the world calibur fighters doing it. Oh, ofcourse, the uneducated boxing world. Let me say this, you can say what you would like to, but boxing and training can not be learned from a book. You are a good debater and all of that but I would not recommend a fighter lift heavy weights, Period. I've read what you have written and am still unable to change my views on it.
