  • Awful Year for Golden Boy Promotions

What a year, right? This list outlines the decline and demise of Golden Boy Promotions:

July 2010: 2009 ESPN Prospect of the Year Daniel Jacobs gets KO'd by European unknown Dmitri Pirog in a Middleweight title fight live on HBO.

July 2010: Houston favorite and former lightweight champion Juan 'Baby Bull' Diaz loses his 3rd of 4 fights live on HBO and goes into a hiatus from boxing.

September 2010: Golden Boy Promotions signs former Junior Welterweight titlist Paulie Malignaggi.

December 2010: Former P4P great Shane Mosley leaves Golden Boy Promotions and signs a lucrative multi-million dollar deal with rival Top Rank to fight Welterweight champion and P4P #1 Manny Pacquiao

March 2011: Golden Boy attempts to sign multi-division champion Nonito Donaire only to get bound into more legal troubles with rival promotional company Top Rank whom expresses that their contract with the aforementioned Donaire is still valid. Donaire's future in boxing is unclear but he has remained inactive since February 2011.

April 2011: Undefeated ex-convict Junior Middleweight hopeful James Kirkland is upset live on HBO to unknown Japanese fighter Nobuhiro Ishida in a shocking first round TKO.

May 2011: Lightweight king Juan Manual Marquez leaves Golden Boy and accepts rival Top Rank's offer to a third showdown with Manny Pacquiao.

2011: Floyd 'Money' Mayweather remains inactive after decisively winning his last fight in May 2010, allowing rival Top Rank to push further ahead with frequent PPV events.
