A guy like Micheal Jordan who is without a doubt the best player in the NBA was by far the best scoring threat in the league, the most clutch player in the league and arguably one of the best defenders in leagues history. It's one thing to dominate one side of the ball but it's another to dominate both. Not to mention in soccer the playmakers don't play the whole field and the spotlight is no where near as it is compared to the Jordan example. Jordan was the spotlight in a game that is 5 on 5, not 10 on 10 or whatever soccer is. Don't even think they are even in the same league. A guy like Bo Jackson is also more talented than Messi as well.
mate you dont understand what messi is or has become. he is like jordan i suppose or like a prime undefeated tyson

his ball control and footwork is the best ever seen, you cant be the best defensive player playing in strike in soccer, but just so you know he works very hard off the ball, closing down players and so on. the fact everytime he gets the ball around 4 players surround him shows what a player he is.

greater than pele, greather than maradona. he is a freak of nature, the best player ever and nobody will ever be better

i aint saying he is greater than jordan because frankly i dont watch basketball but your post at giving reasons why he isnt greater is not true at all

messi is incredibly gifted, accelerated, hip movement, balance/power for a small guy, dribbling, finishing and his killer balls are sensational. its more than sticking a ball int he net, its more than winning awards and titles, its about performance

This season so far his goal scoring record is unreal.

In 27 matches, he has scored 27 goals and has 16 assists.
Last year in 35 matches, he scored 34 goals and had 10 assists.

At the young age of 23 he has an unbelievable record of achievements already.
Won the La Liga four times, Copa del Rey once, Supercopa de España twice,
Won the Champions league TWICE ALREADY, Uefa Super cup and FIFA World Cup club once.

He won the FIFA U20 World cup with Argentina, Received an Olympic Gold medal in 2008,

His individual achievements are even greater.

Name me one American Footballer, Basketballer player or Baseballer for that matter who can touch Lionel Messi, talent wise? None.
Easily, Michael Jordan.............Rockin'

So now you comparing how the sports contrast in relation to the greatness of the players?

Firstly, how in the hell could some who is 5ft 5inches be good on the defence? He is a striker/winger, His job is not to go running back and defend (in which he sometimes does either way.)
Secondly, A football pitch is 120 metres long with 11 players on each team,
A basketball court is 28 metres long with with 5 players on team. Its a more confined space with much less players. Obviously more is going to be expected from them in relation to tracking back and defending.

Thats a stupid argument.
Doesn't soccer give out defensive awards? I don't mean that he has to cover the whole field but soccer has many 1 on 1 battles and I have never heard of Messi being a defensive wizard. IMO, if you are considered one of the greatest athletes of all time you have to be great at all facets of the game. If Messi is only great one aspect of the game he is in same category as a lot of great athletes but certainly not the greatest of all time.

I believe some other people were indicating that Messi had never won a world cup either. Now, when I'm debating the greats of all time championships don't weigh heavily because most sports are team games and one player does not make up a whole team but when you are comparing the greatest athletes ever, winning a title or multiple titles are very important. The greatest athlete of all time should be able to lead his team to a championship at least once in his lifetime.

It has to be Jordan. Arguably the best player on the court at age 18 and arguably the best player on the court all the way to age 37. That's nearly two decades of being the best player in your sport, every single year. Not sure how long Messi has been the best player in his sport but it certainly isn't even one decade.

Speak for yourself bro.

C Ronaldo or Arjen Robben>Messi.

Until Messi makes other teams champions and completely rapes at a WC he will never top maradona.

He probably won't win a WC either as Argentina is an overrated team that will get smashed by any of the powerhouses.

I apologise on behalf of all the football fans for this imbecile, he's just a troll ignore him.

You can't realistically compare players between sports.

And he's done it at every level. From college to the pros and the Olympics. He's been the oldest player to score over 40pts in a game. Led the league in scoring for 7 straight seasons. Won the MVP and Defensive Player of the Year Awards in the same season. 1st in career scoring average. Most points in a playoff game(did this as a rookie)

The guy did it all, pass, score, defend, rebound and dominate the game unlike anyone else
