If you are a modern scientist, a materialist and look for a solution to the creation of the universe inside the material word of course you are gonna come up with nothing because God is beyond material measures and can't be measured or grasped by our five senses. This is what the church always have taught so no suprise there....

If they are equally ludicrous then why postulate a creator to begin with? In fact it would necessarily have to be more ludicrous. The universe sprang from nothing or the creator sprang from nothing and was compelled to then make the universe spring from nothing also using unspecified mechanisms.
