Did "The Ring Magazine" make a mistake in their rankings

Sanctioning Vitali Klitschko vs Corrie Sanders for their title at Heavyweight?

I have no problem with Vitali keeping the WBC title, and fighting whoever he wants. If Rahman isn't available until later in the fall, so be it. Let him fight Maskiev, Brock or whoever.

But strip the man of the Ring Belt.

The biggest blow to the Ring belt's credibility was sanctioning Vitali vs Sanders for their belt, which in reccent years was gaining more and more credibility. Since then, he's fought only once in a year and two months, and it was agaisnt Danny Williams.

I would have less of a problem with him fighting scrubs, and taking his time deciding what he wants to do if he just was a WBC title holder.

But this whole Ring Belt, in conjunction with HBO, calling and touting Vitali Klitschko as "THE" Heavyweight champion is bull ****.

Everyone is at square one at Heavyweight. All of them. None of them are particularly impressive, they've all fought soft opposition to a certian extent, and they're all too inactive.

Vitali Klitschko NEVER should have been declaired the "Ring" Champion, and this is evident in the hard facts about who he's fought since, and what he's doing now.

The "Ring" title should be held vacent until someone unifies the "WBC" WBA" and "IBF" titles. THAT'S where the liniage should continue.

Agree. Rate him #1 if you want (I wouldn't), but wait to name a champion until 2 of the 4 belts are unified

The one problem I have with that is that there is still too much of a reliance on the alphabet organizations. A unification of the titles as means for holding the Ring championship would indicate a certain value in the alphabet titles themselves-- trying to break from these titles was one of the main points of establishing the Ring ratings. Now that is not to say that the rankings were correct persay, as the Ring may not have been correct in elevating Cory Sanders to their #3 contender ranking after his victory over Vitali's brother. It was because of that that Vitali obtained the championship, so essentially I feel as though the intentions were good but the implementation in this instance may have been flawed.

Agree that they made a mistake...but it is easy to point that out now.

When they had Wlad at number one and he fell to Sanders they jumped on corrie's wagon and he vaulted upward in the rankings. I guess another question would be did they give Corrie Sanders to much credit for beating Wlad...who now looks like a ***** but at the time of the Sanders fight people were calling him the clear cut heir apparent.

Now they are sort of ****ed until things work themselves out within the division because the ring rules state that they will not remove a champion uless he retires or loses the belt in the ring.

They will not strip a fighter of a belt out of the ring rather they will just call a fighter out if they see fit, so if the ring has questions about what the hell VK is doing then they should jump on him in their magazine.

The ring needs to call for a tournement, and when that doesnt work call for another and then another...

Well said, but I am not implying that the Ring should impliment that all Champions should have to hold all 3 major titles,

I just think that at Heavyweight, After Lennox Lewis retired, the best sollution would have been to wait until a unification took place.

So I think specific to this case, that would have worked well.

I think this is a valid question, and it's not aimed at the fanatics, because we all know their thoughts already.

I want to get the feeling of different people on this forum on this point.

                    I think it's a fair question.
