I switched orthodox to southpaw due to a hand injury and never changed back. In doing so i found certain movements a lot easier to I became more mobile and put more emphasis on my speed. Before that I used to be quite an aggressive pressure fighter.

I guess I progressed towards more fluent boxing.

I'm working on incorporating more headmovement now, and leading off a lot more with more use of the forehand to open the opponent up.

A lot of the time I resemble Clottey, very much actually, water tight turtle shell defence, fairly strong for my weight, good chin and almost exclusively countering. Now I'm trying to maintain those assets I have, while adding a bit more variation and dimensions to my game. Because while that style is pretty effective most of the time, a good fast boxer with lots of angles can really open it up and shut you down, it has happened to me, and clottey-pac is a perfect example.

so I'm changing my style in a way, or tweaking might be a better word. And yes, I'm getting hit a bit more in sparring (wouldn't say whooped, still holding my own comfortably), but that is normal, it's boxing and I'm working on things i'm bad at.

I have had to change my style before, it was when I first got into boxing, it wasn't a dramatic change, but a change none the less, the reason my trainer got me to change was so I was more relient on my jab seeing as I have a fairly good reach for my age, and I believe that change has come very good for me, and now I'm mainly aiming to be able to increase my speed and what not.

Changing styles is one of the most common errors on trainers and fighters. Stick to what works for you and get better using that style. Sure you need to know how to box or brawl, but always remember your bread and butter. (Nonito Donaire last night)

Good post Pai....The Donaire fight was a perfect example. I don't think I've ever changed my style. Perhaps modified/added on to it. Is that changing style or personal growth? Depends how you look at things I guess.

im a southpaw i was considering switching but then said **** it..and never looked back again. stick to what youre best at, dont listen to anybody else. only you know what feels right or wrong. so if youre a true southpaw then dont listen to nobody and switch stances. if youre a true orthodox then so be it. dont switch stances because some retarded coach told you about how southpaws are harder to fight...makes no sense

I think we're one of the few southpaws on here Bully...Natural southpaw? I'm left handed. Thats me in my avatar at 140 (not in shape) practicing the orthodox stance. My coach helps me work out the righty stance. my right doesnt have ***** on my left but its pretty educated. The guy in the white is a 175lbr. I like learning the righty stance but I fall back quick to lefty when under pressure. My orthodox stance is still a work in progress.

You fight how you fight, that's all there is to it. Everyone has their own style, and trying to mimic another fighter or switch to a whole new style is just detrimental to yourself. It is good to know how to do different things and to add different techniques to your arsenal; but to go from a counter puncher like Mayweather to a brawler like Mayorga, is just going to hurt you.

Do what feels comfortable given the situation. It is all a part of experience. Knowing when to press, and when to let them be the aggressor.

A simple example is someone who is scared of getting hit, trying to be an aggressive in your face fighter. It won't work. Those types of fighters eat punches, and a good amount of them. For someone who is scared to get hit to fight like this is counter productive. You cant be in someones face and also be worried about getting hit.
