What a crock of utterly contrived bullsh*t.

I liked the way that, in one breath, Paisley defensively claims that he's just wearing the flag shirt because he's a "Skynyrd fan", but then goes on to passive-aggressively defend the south with lines like "we're still paying for mistakes that a bunch of folks made before we came", as if southern white people are the only ones still paying for the "mistake" (LOL) of buying and selling human beings.

I also liked the part where he boldly states that he's "proud of where I'm from", when the entire basis of the song is around his wearing a t-shirt displaying the image of the rebel flag. So, apparently, he wants us all to believe that he's proud of his heritage, but just not proud enough to avoid wearing the symbol of the oppressive slave economy that his home state's founders helped destroy.

What a f*cking moron.

As for LL Cool J's part : His negotiation strategy for reparations ("If you don't judge my gold chains, I'll forget the iron chains") is definitely in need of an overhaul.

I also took particular note of Paisley's apparent battlecry : "I'm just a white man living in the south land" - As if his skintone and geographic location grants him some sort of immunity from criticism whenever he decides to wear clothing emblazoned with images that are synonymous with hatred, ignorance, and oppression.

Following his particularly idiotic line of thought, it'd be totally acceptable for someone to wear a t-shirt bearing the swastika on it in public, so long as they defended their actions by recording a 6 minute song about the incident featuring some Jewish musician, and exlained that they were actually Hindu.

Oh, absolutely.

This exceedingly hokey song will no doubt inspire many award nominations, likely due to fact that members of the academy also view the rebel flag from a similarly skewed and borderline retarded point of view.

"Heritage, not hate", I believe they say. Never faltering in their attempt to disguise the fact that hate is the heritage they're celebrating.

How the hell any black man of even remotely average intelligence would sign on to contribute to a project as stubbornly ignorant and patently false as this blows my mind. LL Cool J comes off as even more of a historically ignorant moron than Paisley does in this one, and that is saying something.

Couple of things,

First off, I lost all respect for LL Cool J and I consider him an icon of Hip Hop. I guess money speaks louder than anything else. As a proud Mexican man, you will never hear me disrespect my heritage for any amount of money or trivialize slavery to a few sang words.

The rebel flag is a racist symbol, simply because even though the real reason that the Civil War was fought was for money and the cotton industry, that resulted in the extension of slavery of an entire group of ethnic people.

So while there is some merit to the history of the rebel flag, being something other than standing FOR slavery, it's the main symbol of it today.

Like Bringer said, it would be like wearing a swastika and then claiming German pride, no matter what it may have once stood for, those two symbols represent a horrible time in human history.

Fuk LL for doing this Uncle Tom ass song and fuk the country dude for thinking it's just "Southern Pride".
