Locche would have been greater if he doesnt smoke and if he had trained harder.

People forget that he was already quite old when he finally received a title shot. Who else had to compile a record of 89 wins and only 2 losses before receiving a title shot? And while Locche hadn't always fought great opposition in all of those wins, unlike many other Argentinian boxers he did fight the best.

Drew with Carlos Ortiz and Ismael Laguna while beating LWW great Eddie Perkins. Also beat an older Joe Brown, the underrated Alfredo Urbina and LC Morgan. All this before actually receiving a title shot.

In his 12th professional bout Locche fought 69-0 Jaime Gine and beat him!

At 29 years of age and after nearly 100 professional fights, Locche was finally given a shot. While Locche made Fuji look like a "bum", Fuji was a big puncher, the linear champion and was recently rated among BoxingScene's top 20 all-time light welterweights. Fuji was the favorite going into the fight but came out of it as a broken man. Locche defended his title against title holder Carlos Hernandez, highly regarded Adolph Pruitt and HOFer Antonio Cervantes (whom Locche clowned and shut out for 15 rounds).

Later in his career he unsuccessfully attempted to get a welterweight title shot against Jose Napoles.

All this while smoking between rounds and rarely training.

I'm convinced Locche was a robot. He is a guy that everyone who has boxed before has tried to imitate at the gym at least once and ended up with a nice bloody nose. Sadly he seems to be forgotten as his name is one that isn't mentioned very often which is kind of depressing considering he is extremely entertaining to watch.

Yeah, me too. In front of his home crowd and all. Same with Cervantes, though he got his revenge later on.

One of the main reasons for him not punching enough was his stamina. The more he punched, obviously, the more tired he was and due to his lack of training and smoking he didn't punch very much, which made him seem as though he was only a defensive fighter and nothing more.

Amazing skill any way you look at it though.

Yeah, Locche didn't throw many right hands at all in the Fuji fight, he was just beating Fuji primarily with his left hand, either with a jab or a hook and then he'd make Fuji miss by miles sometimes. I think Fuji landed like 3 good shots in 9 rounds, amazing stuff.
