    Arum's Pacquiao-test pitch doesn't impress Golden Boy

By J. Michael Falgoust, USA TODAY
Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer is not receptive to the last-ditch proposal Top Rank's Bob Arum made Sunday in hopes of preserving the March 13 date for the Manny Pacquiao vs. Floyd Mayweather superfight.

Arum said he would be willing to let Pacquiao go through random urine tests and whatever blood tests the Nevada State Athletic Commission deems necessary with the exception of a 30-day window before the fight, in which Pacquiao would not face blood tests.

"There should be a way to work out that window," Schaefer said. "Cutting off 30 days before the fight is not acceptable. Given the time frame (after the governing body's Jan. 19 meeting), it's not going to work. There's not much to be said. They might as well not do it. What's random about that? Nothing. Is it effective? No. Does it do anything? No."

Arum wants the commission to discuss the matter at the Jan. 19 meeting.

"We would do anything they offered because they're the appropriate governing body for this fight," Arum said. "We're going to abide by any decision by the Nevada commission. We just made the presentation in a telephone call less than an hour ago."

If the proposal is rejected, Arum said he'll "immediately" turn to Plan B: Paulie Malignaggi.

Mayweather has demanded Olympic-style random blood testing performed by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency, the independent body that handles testing for Olympic sports, but Pacquiao would only agree to three tests, two before and one after their bout. The Nevada commission only tests urine before and after.

"Pacquiao thinks USADA is affiliated with Golden Boy," Schaefer said. "It's not about who (performs the test). ... Let's not use USADA. Let's use somebody both sides feel comfortable with, and let's agree on a reasonable cutoff that maintains the integrity of the testing."

how many random drug tests are they willing to do for each fighter?

I know there's one just right after the fight, but can they take as many as they want anytime they want?

Schafer & Mayweather should say "Forget you Arum and Pacquiao go fight Paulie Malignaggi and we'll fight Timothy Bradley!"

Or just retire. Mayweather will be #1 by default(just like Pacquiao got his spot) and fight Khan, Bradley, winner of Berto-Mosley, Victor Ortiz, then retire on top.

They should, but they wont. Bradley is a good fighter they'll go with less of a challenge.
