''Fireman'' Jim Flynn in his own right was a good fighter and much better than his record suggest's.

He was born Hoboken, NJ, USA, and his real name was actually Andrew Chiariglione.

Flynn was a short, squat, sturdy light heavyweight who fought anyone, regardless of their weight; He was tough, clever and game; During his career, he tangled with some of the greatest names in boxing history - Jack Johnson, Jack Dempsey, Sam Langford, Tommy Burns, "Philadelphia" Jack O'Brien, Luther McCarty, Jack Root, George Gardner, Ed "Gunboat" Smith, Battling Levinsky, Jack Dillon, Theodore "Tiger" Flowers, Fred Fulton, Billy Miske and he also defeated pretty touted white hope Carl Morris.

Perhaps his most famous battles were his rough, aggressive 1912 fight against Jack Johnson for the World Heavyweight Championship and his 1917 win over Jack Dempsey and draw with Sam Langford.

Overall Flynn had wins over over 2 Hall of Famers in Jack Dempey and Tiger Flowers and a draw with Sam Langford.

Stanley Kecthel is also of belived to of rejected a showdown with him.

Flynn never avoided no one and was always willing to take on the best. So I wound't begrudge him a HOF spot.

(On a side note) For the Jack Johnson rematch Flyn was being trained by the great Tommy Ryan. But a few days before the bout Ryan had suddenly walked out of the Flynn camp, telling the press oly that the challenger was overweight and sure to lose. Jack Curley who was promoting the fight explained the embarassment away by saying that Flynn had found Ryan too dictatorial. But after the fight Ryan offered a fuller explanation.'' If ever a man deliberately trained to fight a foul fight'' Jim Flynn was that man.

You have heard the stories about Flynn's partners being disabled? well, they were disabled the same sort of thing Flynn attempted to pull on Johnson. He practiced butting and fouling, and it was a surprise to me that he did not bite Johnson when he got in the ring''

That's a good post,.... but there are so many better fighters ahead of him, he was mostly thought of as "OPPONENT".
