  • My thoughts on Wlad, and the fight

    - Alright, consider me pretty much a fan now. The guy is great at what he does, and I've always liked technicians with a great jab. Since Lennox is gone, he fills the void in my view.

    - With that said, I'm not about to become a blind fanBOY in the sense that I won't acknowledge any faults or deficiencies in his game. There are still some (which I won't bother to get into now), but we just didn't see much of them in that fight. He was perfect out there.

    - When it comes to David Haye, all I can say is that he is very very lucky not to have gone up against this version of Wlad. He would've got a pizzaface, I'm sure of it. Hell, I think he'll fare much better against an old Vitali who isn't as sharp. I've never spouted off about how Haye is the second coming, or that he's amazing, but there was a point sometime earlier in which I felt that he could've possibly beaten Wlad with effort... but not anymore. No way. He'll have to really work at beating other HWs if he wants to get up there with the big man. You don't just go in there thinking you're going to KO him. It'll make you look ridiculous, as Chags found out in the 1st round with those attempted 'flurries'.

    - I didn't catch Chags' entrance, but Wlad's was baaaaaaaaadaaaaaassss. People need to start realising how cool this guy actually is. I don't like the Chili Peppers much, but that song suits him to the ground. Besides, it's refreshing to hear something else other than hip hop for once.

    - Despite their rep as boring and non-responsive, I thought the Germans put on a great show and provided an enjoyable atmosphere from beginning to end. Their appreciation for Wlad is admirable and heartwarming to say the least, and the sheer amount of attendees in that arena was astonishing. Haye could never have sold out Stamford Bridge like that. I also loved the lighting effects they did for the ring. Very creative, and nice to see them putting the fighters in the spotlight. IMO it makes a change from the same ol' HBO broadcasts in the States.

    - Wlad's expression when coming to the ring is baaaaaaadaaaaaaassss as well. I don't care about the "robotic" comments. Who in their right mind, boxer or anyone, would fuck with this man? In the ring he's a 6'6" emotionless beast with a Michaelangelo's David-esque physique, as opposed to some psycho loose cannon (i.e. Tyson) who looks like a tub of shortening (i.e. Arreola, Peter, Chambers). Again, as a diehard Lennox fan, I know which I prefer to see.

    - As for the fight itself, I know I'll probably be in the minority here (or, sadly, grouped amongst the Klitschko nuthuggers), but I thoroughly enjoyed it. Whether it was my intense dislike for Chags, or that I had found a good quality stream for once, or an appreciation of how damn good Wlad is, or the fact that I was watching a genuine HW title bout after a while, or the delicious curry I'd just had - OR all five - I was thrilled to bits in every round. That is what I call a schooling. Granted, it wasn't that much more exciting than Wlad-Ibragimov, but call me insane for loving every minute. We saw a knockdown, the best jab in the biz, some punishing right hands, yet another corner stoppage and a new Ring champion.

Fuck it, that fight kicked ass. Until he fights Haye (which I hope will still happen some day), I say hail Wlad! :box1:

I gotta disagree Pitty, I was disappointed in Wladdy tonight. I've always been a fan and rep'd for him but tonight he let me down.

He had a dead man in front of him and let him go ten rounds and put everyone in my house to sleep.

Hate to say it, but I'm rooting for Haye to dethrone him if they fight.

No worries, man. See unlike the Klitschko stans, I can actually look at things from both an appreciator's and a hater's perspective. I don't necessarily agree with those who say he's boring and doesn't go all-out, because I'm a fan of the chess game aspect of boxing (again, to reference Lennox), but I certainly understand where they're coming from. Some folks just don't have the patience for technicians, and would rather watch a fighter who polishes 'em off early.

I happen to have love for both types.
