Tiger would obviously be very comfortable at that weight. I don't agree with all the stick that Calzaghe gets on here but if the right Dick Tiger shows up (very hot and cold as a fighter) i'd favour him.

Calzaghe if he manages to not get knocked out. Easier said than done however. Calzaghe at no point is going to get away with standing right in front of the man whilst wailing away. And that seems to compromise the majority of his offense... He can give angles all he wants, if he doesn't get on his bicycle he will get clocked.

** Gonna give you the first scrap of credit here for getting the correct name even if you butchered the analysis.

Tiger one of my great favs, but he was at least 37 yrs old near his natural street weight of 168 when he moved up. Probably older given the poor birth records in his region, so, he wasn't KOing anyone of note then for that reason.

Joe was a natural LH squeezed into modern supermid because of new weighin rules. He was far faster of hand and foot than anyone Tiger faced save maybe Griffin. Both are slow starters, so cancel any advantage there. He's also far better at LH than all but Foster who KOed the ancient Tiger.

Joe used very subtle footwork to control the action within the pocket much like Popkins used in his one off performance against Pavlik. Nothing would need to change for Joe save the neccessity of being properly trained for Tiger's formidable body shots which might be the only weakness Joe has in this fight.

Tiger should be properly matched at middle, not LH although his class was such that he managed a brief flourish to end his career.

I'd give Calzaghe a slight edge in this fight based on his footspeed and movement. Tiger wasn't the kind of pressure fighter to intelligently cut off the ring and close distance against speedy movers; he was a little flat-footed in that regard. I think Calzaghe has the adaptability, movement, and jab to keep this fight at his distance, his preferred pace, and it would see him outbox and outmanuver Tiger more often than not. So stylistically, this fight goes to Calzaghe.

However, I also believe he'd get dumped on his ass at least once in the fight because he does like to fight. And if you stood in front of Tiger, getting into a war of attrition, you more than likely weren't going to come out for the better. Refer to his fights with Gene Fullmer for an example.

Tiger's optimal weight would have been 168, IMO.
