  • Mosley ready to go at 144 lb vs Pacquiao

MANILA, Philippines – Shane Mosley is willing to stake his WBA welterweight crown if he gets to face Manny Pacquiao even at a catch weight of 144 lb.

“I’ll meet him halfway so we can make the fight,” said Mosley in an exclusive interview aired by NBN-4 sports program Teledyaryo yesterday.

Mosley, the champion at 147 lb, said he’s willing to go down in weight, face Pacquiao on Oct. 17, and stake his crown just to see “who’s the best.”

Pacquiao’s trainer, Freddie Roach, said they’re willing to face Mosley if the latter would agree to go down to 142 lb. Then Mosley said “halfway” could mean 144 lb.

“I can possibly make the weight and feel comfortable. I want to explore that,” said Mosley.

Snow Badua of Teledyaryo asked Mosley if he’d be willing to stake his WBA crown against Pacquiao, and the 37-year-old, 5-foot-9 champion said, “Yeah, definitely.”

Mosley also said the purse split shouldn’t be a problem, even if Pacquiao, now the pound-for-pound king, gets more.......

I actually think this a ballsy thing to do on Shane's part. I'm all for a fight with him and Paul Williams because that fight would crown a Ring champ at 147. Ring has the intention to automatically rank Williams at #2 if he schedules another fight at Welterweight. That fight to me is a toss up fight because Williams may be in the same position that Shane will be if Shane decides to fight Pacquiao in regards to the possibility of being weight drained. And the sad thing is if Mosley beat Williams at that weight people would discredit Mosley for beating a guy that is dehydrating himself. But here, if he beat Manny, a lot of people like myself would view it as a good accomplishment if he does it at a catch weight. My personal preference is to either see a rematch between Mosley and Cotto or a fight between Williams and Mosley. I think these catchweight fights are bull**** regardless of what kind of odds Shane is trying to defy here. And Manny needs to fight guys at their healthy weight. 140 is a deep division. To me if Manny doesn't fight at least one of these 5 guys his legacy should take a hit: Victor Ortiz, Nate Campell, Devon Alexander, Mike Alvarado, or Timothy Bradley. I think Bradley is the most beatable out of those 5.

I think mosley should forget about pac and try and get cotto in the ring or beat up berto.

that said, mosley has nothing to lose against pac... he'll get a pay day and an automatic excuse (he was weight drained). actually he does lose a fight w/ pbf if he loses to pac tho. so best bet is to fight berto.
