  • how small is too small for boxing?

so my friend wants to get into the pugilist sport, the guy is 5'3, very compact and stocky and weighs 135, very lean so I told him if he were to compete he would have to loose a lot of muscle for the lower weight classes, if he fights at 135-130 he would be fighting against people a lot bigger then him.

another disadvantage is that he has T rex arms LOL very short arms. Should I tell him that some people just don't possess the body for boxing?

I thought he can go down to feather weight or even lighter, but i saw his body and he is very lean, so if he were to drop weight, he would be loosing a lot of muscle mass because he doesn't have that much fat to loose.

baby jake matlala was 4ft 8 and his wins include a stoppage over 5ft 5 michael carbajal. though that was at light flyweight but it shows even small guys can do ok if their good enough.
Another extreme is Tyson who didnt have very long arms either but still could ko much bigger guys.

tell him to watch a lot of hatton fights and get that speed up! He will have trouble but if he really wants it he can make it.

speed is something he does have. I don't think I can persuade him otherwise, this is something he has to find out for himself, and at 5'3 lean 135lb, he is going to have a lot of trouble...this is going to be interesting.
