Margarito the aftermath the plaster the loss to Mosley

Ok we have all seen the many numerous threads posted with articles and opinons on what was actually inside Tony's wraps when Richardson had them rewrap his hands. People have speculated on whether or not someone would benifit from having plaster in their hand wraps. I dug up an old article about Luis Resto and how he used plaster and cut out some of the padding in his gloves before a fight. So yes it can be beneficial too a boxer to load up his glove/wraps.

Look at it from this prospective you have your hands tapedlegally. if you ever boxed and had you hands taped correctly and legally you know what it feels like and how your hands are protected. The weight of your hands plus the weight of the tape make your hands pretty hard and heavy. the usuage of the gauge and the tape give a decent apd to protect your knuckles. Your hand pretty much feel like cement already. As long as you keep a tight closed fist your hands will feel pretty brick like. If you cant keep a tight fist or you are using 16oz gloves then it might take away from your power and make your hands feel a little buit softer.

Now imagine you line the tape of you wraps with powder plaster. This substance is in the inside of the tape and wraps. Once it gets wet it conforms to the surface and sticks like glue and hardens. You knuckels would be in almost a soft cast. if anyone here has ever had a soft cast on a limb or hand they would know how it feels and how hard it is. Seeing that you have had your fist clinched most of the time your are fighting onc ethe substance hardened it would be esentially part of the wrap and seeing how it is only on the outside your knuckels and you have some tape and gaus betwen your skin and and the substance it shouldnt cut or hurt your hands it would only make your hands feel and hit harder. The weight would increase with the moisture and the substance would harden. Each blow landed would be like getting hit in the face with a brick. Imagine that.

Then imagine this a fighter who seems to get stronger as the fight goes on. A fighters whos punches seem to get harder as the later rounds approach. Imagine your hands inside a boxing glove about the 5th or 6th round how much moisture would be in there. What round does Tony usually come on on anyway?? I am not saying that Tony is guilty by no means am I judge and jury. It will be investigated I am sure by the athletic commision and the reults will be revealed to the public soon I hope. I mean how many days does it take for a lab to check into something like that anyway? Hopefully for the good of boxing it turns out he didn't try to cheat and we can no longer question any of his wins prior to that night. On the flip side if he did cheat what should be his penalty? California will certainly suspend him. Las Vegas officials have already said that they would respect the officials decision in California and not allow Tony to fight there either. Is this worst then Tyson behavior and the ear biting incident? I mean Tony if this is true he could have killed Shane or caused some serious perminate damamge.

the after math has yet to come since the word is not out on the test of this alleged material taken from his wraps. We know Richardson has done this before with Tito and other opponents to try to get into someones head before a big fight. When a fighter is accustommed to having his hands wrapped a certain way it becomes a conforatability factor in a fight knowing your hands are protected. Having them rewrapped and wrapped a way you are not used to can have a affect on your punching power and your mental stability during a fight. The confidence to throw a hard shot and know you hand is not going to get damaged weighs heavily on you. Richardson knows this and that is why he emplyos this tatic often if he is allowed too.

my thought really dont matter as much but Richardson sure did get in the head of many a boxing fan. Hearing Jim Lampley report this Saturday night got me sitrred up. I know this much if I were going into a fight and I found out that my opponent tried to load up his gloves and potentially could have hurt me or even killed me I would be throwing my punches with the best of intentions if you know what I mean. That certainly would have given me a little bit more motivation. So hoepfully Tony will be cleared of this issue and the black eye that has been delt to boxing will be lifted and we can all go on with talk of fights coming up and match ups we want to see. because i surely know the Tony I saw against Cotto I wanted to and will want to see in there against other Top 10 guys. To all you Margarito fans I am nin no way bashing you fighter so ease up on me.....Lefty

I think you know very well that NSB attention spans and abuse of the Margs topics is going to limit this thread to less than 10 real responses.

      Good post...

I guess all we can do is wait and see...First for the commision results...and then for the rematch with Cotto...The truth should be pretty evident fight night...whatever the truth may be.

I honestly hope he is the great fighter I always thought he was and can lift himself up from a crushing defeat with dignity intact.

thanks for the great post, now i understand this thing more. Actually something like that can in my opinion help the fighter not become sloppy later in the fight. As youre tired and your hands hurt a bit you may become sloppier, like you dont close your fist properly anymore and basically just cant deliver like when your hands are fresh. With this thing you can worry less about that because your hand will be a lot fresher and maybe that cast helps you form a proper punch.

So even if you dont have the force anymore to give the final sting in your punch by closing it strong when it makes contact, that cast can still hurt like a brick.

Possibly so it adds weight and makes you hands feel harder sir. So that is possible. Also the mental effect it has on someone knowing they have an advantage or at least they think so....Lefty
