Looks like a great year for MMA fans
Looking at Pride FC's schedule, between Bushido and their regular shows they'll have a PPV every month. Along with the UFC's shows, which are usually every other month and the possibility of a weekly program MMA fans will have plenty of fights to watch this year. Add KOTC and K-1 to the list and This could be the biggest year ever as far as TV goes.
One thing I would like to see is one of the bigger shows put on a free TV event. They've reported that they don't make any money on the PPV shows so why not do one for free. Promote the hell out of it and let people see what the new MMA shows look like.
You wouldn't buy a car if you had to make a payment before you test drive it would you?
Most people won't spend $30 for something they've never seen.
People I have talked to about the sport only know of the early UFC's with the poor production quality and mismatched fights.
Put on a free show and promote it during boxing matches and other contact sports. During the show explain the new rules and how the sport has evolved to the greatest combat sport ever.
Also, props to the UFC for landing a major sponsor in Miller beer for UFC 46. One thing that has kept other sponsor supported sports like NASCAR going is that the fans are loyal to the companies who help keep it going. We're going to need that type of loyalty in MMA too if we want more big name advertisers to jump on.
