Default How long did it take you to become an amateur?

As in how many years/months of training?
Ive never boxed before but i'd figure if i train a couple of hours a week I could be an amateur within a couple of months

Is this realistic?

It'll be 5.5 months for me training 5, sometimes 6 days a week, 2-3 hours per day.

I've been ready to fight for about a month and a half now, but we had some issues with my registration forms, and finding a fight.

I had my first fight 1 year after i joined the gym, the trainers were pushing me to fight sooner but i didn't feel ready and i didn't like the pression they were putting on me.

same here, i train with the amateurs at the gym all the time, and spar with them but i hvnt fought and its been about a lil more than a year since i really started taking boxing serious. like you said, feeling ready is what i think will really boost your confidence up once you're ready to take up a fight, but then again i cant wait forever for that to happen. im pretty sure it'll happen to me soon, but ima give it a lil more time to see if i can further improve on my skills. for me there's too many factors that hold me back like my engineering studies and work, so balancing out priorities is hard for me.

You are an amature now =)

I took a year of training before my first fight. I was more then ready before then, but waited for the right time(Local amature show promoted by my promoter).

A solid 2-3 months, and someone would be ready for their first amature fight. Basicly you just need to be in shape. Skill doesn't matter during your first fight, or even second. It is all about the will to fight, continue, and win.

For your first fight you will have a big game plan. You say to yourself you gonna go in, use your jab, work some combos and move around.

Soon as you step in that ring, and the opponent hits you, you forget everything you've learned and instict kicks in, and it's a brawl. You wont be able to control it, and will fight like this as I said, your first fight, two, or three. Eventually you'll clam down and grasp what is going on, and will learn to handle it better and better.
