  • were max baer and joe walcott all time greats

there's a know it all boxing expert by the name of slicksouthpaw16 who thinks they were all time greats

max baer who was a good fighter with one of the most devastating right hands has spent his whole career clowning and never achieving his full potential. slicksouthpaw thinks that because he knocked out max schmeling he's a great fighter. in that case hasim rahman is a great too because he knocked out lennox lewis

walcott among his many losses, lost to a guy 11-15, you call that greatness?? he only beat a former light heavyweight ezzard charles who beat him twice. he officially lost to ouis, and was knocked out by marciano twice. does a good showing make you into a great fighter. he was a journeyman at best

Max Baer also had a lot of other good wins. Walcott gave Louis and Maricano very good runs for there money and had good wins over Harold Johnson, Ezzard Charles, and other top heavyweight cotenders.

Max put Primo out on ***** street, killed Frankie Campbell, knocked out Max Schemling. Max is debateable, but Walcott isn't.

Gotta vote no. If these two are greats then there are simply too many greats.

He peaked late in his career.

He should have won the first Louis fight, it's arguable one of the worst robberies of all time, beat Harold Johnson, Joey Maxim and fellow ATG Ezzard Charles twice.

He gave Marciano arguably his toughest fight in his career before getting caught.

Some of the things he used to do in the ring are still used to this day.

Because Ezzard Charles actually won the heavyweight title convincingly. Spinks arugably lost to Holmes twice when Holmes was past his prime. Charles was a greater Light Heavy (how he never won a title there is something I don't know) then Spinks anyway.

                  Contenders are as followed:

                  -Harold Johnson
                  -Joe Baksi
                  -Lee Q. Murray
                  -Curtis Sheppard
                  -Jimmy Bevins
-Elmar Ray (who he lost to the first time, but avenged the loss)

Wikipedia is a wonderful thing isn't it? Oh that and many felt he was robbed against Louis the first time which is a statement within itself.

all those guys were legetimate light heavyweights, every single one. i want to know what heavyweight names he beat, and what makes his an all time great?

fighting marciano and loosing good does not make you great

he was a journeyman who lost won some and lost some. greats dont do that
