Just wondering how long it took you guys to start sparring after taking on boxing. I've "half-sparred" with a buddy of mine at my friend's gym a couple of times but we were pretty much just going at it really easy without headgear, just wearing sparring gloves but I have yet to sparred in my local gym. I'm a little hesitant to ask one of the guys in there to spar since I really don't know anyone well, and from what I've seen not a lot of people spar the days I've been in the gym, and the ones that do they seem to be friends with each other. I feel like I'm ready to spar for at least 3 rounds, I've been hitting the heavy bag for over a year now, getting better at the speedbag, footwork is still a work in progress as well as jumping a mean rope, but my punches feel strong and I got the mechanics in place I think. Any tips?

It depends on you personaly, if you feel your ready give it a try. If ya get your ass kicked and can't hold up your hands after the first or second round you need to train more. If you hold your own and feel strong at the end of 3 rounds your ready. The only thing that will make you comfortable in the ring is lots of sparring. Good Luck

My trainer put me in the ring the first week of training. He thought I knew what I was doing cause my movement and punches looked good. I thought I would have no problem with the guy cause my cardio was great. but after about 1 round I was exhausted. I couldnt believe it. I didnt know what was wrong. Later I figured that it had to have been my nerves. I was just really nervous about getting in the ring. later after working with the trainer in the ring I felt more calm and relaxed. my advise would be to get in there and get comfortable with sparring. if your O.K. sparring your friend then try someone else.
