Mr. Ginther,
We are having an MMA event in August for this web site. Any advice for us on how to prepare. We all train and work out but any tips would be helpful.
Thanks

Curly,

This close to competition I would stick with what you know, and not try introducing any new or untried methods.

I would make highly-specific training such as sparring and sparring drills the priority, taking care to avoid injury.

Focus on bringing up weak areas such as power, or power endurance.

Non-specific training such as running should be scaled back, or preferably dropped altogether.

As training progresses, both fitness levels and levels of fatigue increase. But because recovery from fatigue is faster than loss of fitness, as competition nears a tapering period is necessary.

During the tapering period, volume, but not intensity is greatly reduced. The length of the tapering period will depend on the length of the preparatory period and the levels of fatigue, but could be from between 1-3 weeks.

Hope this helps.
