    Carlos Quintana UD Paul Williams

We all know by now what transpired (as if the millions of threads arent a indication) Saturday night on B.A.D. It what is undoubtedly is the biggest upset of the year, Quintana beat Williams. Ever since I joined the board, I promised myself and you all that I would remain as objective as possible. So, Ill start with the facts:

    1. In late December, Williams found out that he would be fighting Quintana in a month.
    2. Following the weigh-in, Williams ballooned to 164lbs on fight night.
    3. Despite averages of throwing 100 punches per round in previous bouts, Williams threw 552 punches in a 12 round span against Quintana.
    4. Paul Williams lost.

Now, some will and have said already that Williams was a overrated fighter, that he didnt seriously train for and overlooked Quintana, that Quintana will beat Mayweather, and Im sure alot of other foolishness. But what I will state, as honestly as possible, is that the performance Paul Williams gave Sat. night wasnt at all similar to the past performances Ive seen him put out, or the past performances YOU have seen him give. Everything about Williams coming into this fight was different. He was a champ, drastically over the WW limit after the official weigh-in, and even had a new haircut. According to Lennox Lewis, Williams stated he planned on changing his attack for this fight, to "sit on his punches" to add power. Yet, he lost. After this fight, I was thinking about Lewis v Rahman, Morales v Raheem, Griffin v Jones I, Douglas v Tyson and countless other upsets that Ive seen. Were the favored fighters in those bouts overrated? In their losses, were they necessarily exposed? I dont believe so. Williams is a great champion, fistically gifted with a daunting physique. I think this fight was more Williams not executing his game-plan than Quintana executing his. And dont get me wrong, Quintana definately did. He used good movement, hand speed, punches in angles and overhand lefts to diffuse the "most feared fighter in the planet." But Williams didnt look so fearsome did he? He looked sluggish, slower than Quintana, confused, off-tempo, I could go on. But I dont have to, we all know how he looked. The question I want to pose is did he look like Paul Williams? Just my 2 cents. I know boxing.
