Default The path to becoming world champion

Hi, my name is ocho. I'm currently a freshman college student in Manila. Boxing has been my favorite sport since I was a kid, and I was always getting into fights growing up. I really wanted to take up boxing when I was still a kid but there are no boxing gyms in my neighborhood when i was young so I really didn't have the chance to learn to box. Now that I am studying here in Manila, I am currently training in L&M gym(where Pac trained before Wild Card Gym) but lately I haven't gone there because I'm so ashamed of my condition so I'm currently in the process of jogging and losing weight in order to have better stamina, coordination, and endurance.

I am 5'7'', a righty but a southpaw, I study Erik Morales and Oscar de la Hoya's style. I am watching and doing the Title Boxing's 14 DVD's religously for 2 weeks now. I think I'm more familiar with De La Hoya's -left jab, right cross, left hook' KO pattern. I always do that 25 times for my warmup and cool down.

My dream is to be:

Amateur Olympic Gold Medalist in Featherweight Division
Philippine Featherweight Champion
OPBF Featherweight Champion
Undisputed Featherweight Champion (WBC, WBA, IBF, WBO)
3 title defenses then move up to Super Featherweight
I'd like to face Manny... though I'm sure I'd get beat up horribly
IBF Super Featherweight Champion (Manny holds the 3 other belts) then 1 title defense
Do Velocity training then move up to Lightweight
WBC Lightweight Champion, 1 title defense
WBC Super Lightweight Champion, 2 title defense or 1 unification bout
Undisputed Welterweight Champion of the world (WBC, WBA, IBF, WBO)
I'd like to fight my Idol, Miguel Cotto...
WBO Super Welterweight Champion (I think 1 fight per year is enough)
then my closing fight, I'll challenge the WBC Middleweight Champion, if I lose its okay..
Retire.. and continue my studies in medicine.

Anyway, since people here are very learned in boxing, there are many things I want to ask to you guys. I think I have my answers, but I'm not so sure about it so I want to hear your opinion.

-Is it possible for a person to study (I'm in pre-med) and be an amateur at the same time? What is the goal of the amateur boxers here in the Philippines? Do we have a Golden Glove Tourney here? How long must I be a amateur before going pro? How can I qualify for the olympics?

- How many fights do I have to have in order to be a pro? Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the trainer has to vouch for the boxer in order to be a pro?

- How is the ranking system here in the Philippines? I mean,Rapid Fire (Bernabe Concepcion) has 6W-0L-4KO record and now he is WBO Interim Asia Pacific champ. Should I go for the national Title instead?

- How many bouts should I compete every year? Is it possible for me to have title shot in a span of 2 years?

I'll add some questions next time... anyway, thanks in advance for reading and answering this. I know almost everyone would say I'm delusional.. but its free to dream. At least I'm doing something about it.

Thank You!

Get to the gym, in whatever shape you are.

They'll sort you out faster, than you will do yourself. As for watching videos.. you need to be taught by someone in person, not by watching a tv of Oscar De La Hoya.

You need to learn the basics.

As for your list of wishes, good luck.

to be honest your path to retirment seems a lot like a dream, and it sounds as if you take ti for granted that you will be this,

there are people wh started boxing at ages of 5 or 6 who all their lives stay in shape and a really really good, but would only dare to dream of becoming that good. you cant just do this and then that is not that simple.
and your idols will have probably retired when your at that level so you couldnt face them.

it takes months and mabey years of hard practice and training to even turn amature.
and then after years of amature boxing and a good record, only the best amatures turn profesionl and only if you can find a coach to take you.
and then your fightting the best boxers and youve got to be extremly good and amazing talent to fight miguel cotto and people like that.it wont just happen , do that you have to dedicate your life to boxing,
i dream of that to but i dont write it out and plan it coz i know tht 1/99999
chance i may have of fighting de la hoya and people like that.

however if you know everyting above and , you alrdey do do this, and are dedicated, and have boxed, then by all means you can try and i hope you do become a wrld champion, but its not easy at all, its very very very very hard.

good luck, im not trying to put you down or anyting im just trying to exlain how hard it is,

its good to have goals.

I dont agree with the other posters about it taking years and years ot become a champion.

If you have talent, you can accomplish alot pretty quickly, maybe in 5 years. But you need talent

There are plenty of boxers out there who have been fighting since 5 or 6 and they never get anywhere.

Also, look at some of the champions in certain division we have at the moment, some of them are completely talentless and rely purely on determination. Gavin Rees for example, the worst champion i`ve ever seen.

You can't train to have chin. You either do, or you don't.
