Clubs Smoking Bans

This ****s me no end. I agree, non smokers should be able to have the air the way they want it...BUT to have NO smoking areas inside at all is a joke. If i want to go to my local club, have a drink and a punt, i have to go outside to have a smoke... does this piss anyone else off?

Yeah, It's pretty sad. I love it how you can still smoke in places like Burger King in Europe, that makes me laugh. I couldn't get over it.

As recent as 4 or 5 months ago smoking was banned within all public places (pubs, clubs, nightclubs etc...) You can't even smoke at a bus stop in England. (Scotland even earlier!)

Must say, i was apprehensive at first (my main fear was that i wouldn't see any of me smoker mates when i was down the boozer). But it is actually a lot better. I don't come home stinking of ***s anyway and me mates still come to the pub as much as ever.

Whats teh law over in Oz?

As for drinking after hours - we got 24 hour licensing applied last year in the country too. Its bloody brilliant - there is always a bar or pub open somewhere now.

Nah i love it. Im a non smoker, i like keeping my lungs clean. I am sick and tired of people blowing smoke in my lungs. I have nothing against smokers, but the new laws are right.

Its pretty slack on non-smokers if they don't have these laws. Because if smokers smoke inside and outside, then non-smokers have no choice and can't get away from the smoke. Now it is simply giving choice back to non smokers aswell. So non-smokers can choose to be inside and clean and smokers outside. It is the right thing to do in the end.

i agree non smokers should have the right to not breath in 2nd hand smoke. But the local clubs near me had seperate rooms (closed off) to the rest with pokies/tab/bar etc. I think if the rooms are not connected in any way, then we should be allowed to smoke (within set designated area). Please tell me, are we going to stop cars from being on the road because they let off fumes? Are we going to ban people from the sun unless they have sunscreen on? I think its rediculas.

Well if those clubs had already closed off rooms just for non-smokers than you have a point mate. I have to say a majority of clubs don't have this so they need to implement this stuff. Everything involves a degree of danger. Everyone has a right to smoke. Its a complicated issue i give you that.

The smoking laws in ENgland are NOT to protect the public.

Its to protect the bar staff, the managers, the girls who serve bar food. I used to work in a very smoky restaurant as a student and eventually quit because of the horrible headaches i kept getting every weekend due to the cigar/ciggarette smokers.

The public who work in these areas need to be safe from second hand smoke, which does kill. (The main guy for the charity in England is a guy called Roy Castle, who was a jazz trumpeter who died of smoking related- lung cancer, yet had never touched a cig in his life. It was from the Smoky jazz clubs where he worked).

but even that is a cop out... you know what to expect when you work in a place like that. What if some boxers kicked up a stink and ALL fights needed head gear?

i see waht you're saying. having the two areas.. smokers and non smoker seemed like a decent compromise. but im a non-smoker and so i cant say it particularly ****s me
