Red face The Ramblings of Stef

This is my first post here, so hello all. I've just started BJJ again after 8 months. And, because I'm such a slack bastard, I thought I might start some sort of journal here, in the hope that it'll keep me motivated.
I had my first class back last saturday, and it ****ing destroyed me. I've started of at a new school that's run by a purple belt who seems to be a really good teacher. He spent a lot more time with me then my old instructor (who was a black belt) ever did, which is a good sign. probably should have gone a bit lighter, because my knee and elbow have started playing up again from a few old injuries. Apart from that, I had a good time. There were a few new guys starting so we went through basic escapes from the mount, and a knee over the leg guard pass. It seems like they focus a lot more on basic things like closed guard and escapes at this joint, which is what I need. At my old school I started learning spider guard, butterfly guard, etc straight away. I think that was because there were a lot more advanced students and no separate classes for beginners.

Just had a 45 min stretch. I focused on my bung knee a lot. It's feeling better so I think I'll go to class tomorrow.

Hi Stef and welcome aboard...

Coming back after a break is tough, I know what you are going through believe me! Keep it going though, it will all be good soon when your body remembers how to do things and the pain will almost disappear

Thanks guys. I should probably give a bit of background info. I'm 21, from Melbourne, Australia. I started training BJJ in Dec 2001 under Peter DeBeen (a Carlos Gracie jr Blackbelt). In Apr 2002 I headed of to Thailand for three months. When I got back I never really got the urge to go back to training. Instead I spent all my time smoking bongs and playing video games. I always said I wanted to start BJJ again, but I never really made an effort.
At the start of December last year, one of my old mates rang me up out of the blue and told me that he was heading up to Byron Bay on a surfing trip, and there was a spare seat if I wanted it.

So one week later I found myself driving up to the north of Aus with some of my best mates from high school, who I hadn't really had much to do with in the last few years. Well, seeing as it's a 20 hour car ride, we did a lot of talking about what we'd been up to, etc, etc. I ended up spending half of the time talking about this family of Brazilian fighter's called the Gracies, and how I'd been studying their fighting style. It was during this car ride that I realised how much I missed my jiu jitsu classes.
So after a a month or so of Byron's lovely beaches, nightlife and women, I was back in Melbourne. After working my arse of for a few weeks (I had $20 to my name when I got home). I finally had my first class back last Saturday (1st of Feb).
My second class starts in about an hour, so I better start getting ready.

I should also add that I'm now training in a different school, which is almost half the cost of the last one (yes, I am a tightarse). The guy who runs this new school seems to better at explaining things to beginners then my old teacher, but it's only my second lesson, so we'll see.
