yeh ive been having to use the treadmil for the last few weeks..but only because its been bad weather and has been raining like everyday..i hate running on the treadmil..everything seems longer and its boring..i like running outside better because i can actually see that i am getting somewhere and not b like "****! only 60!?!" and its better running outside bcuz you get fresh air to breathe in..but other then being boring i guess treadmil works..just as long as you do the running..but i heard running on treadmils might b hard on your knees..anybody got any truth to that?

Treadmills aren't great for your knees, but pavement is worse, so if you have to choose, I guess treadmill. If you have a good track, that's good, personally I sometimes to sprint/interval training at a soccer field in the summer, which is fine on your knees. Personally I hate training on treadmills, during the winter months, I use the bike (stationary bike, inside), in the summer though, I prefer to run outside, not to mention I find it easier to shadowbox as I run, and also easier to do interval training, and really sprint.

Peace,
Trick

I like running on a treadmill because with a click of a button you are running up a hill. I have a problem with shin splints too, and the treadmill is easier on my legs. When it warms up Ill start doing sprints outside too.

Running on a treadmill is easier, but that's the only reason I like it better than running outside. I definitely push myself more when I run outside. When I'm dead tired, I think "I gotta make it to this next stop sign" or something to that effect.

Can't do that on a treadmill.

Not to mention sprinting is much harder on a treadmill.

Not sure what you have already tried to fix the shin splints, but just from personal experience I had them so bad that I couldn't walk after my runs but went to the gym and did calf raises and things of that sort to strengthen my calves. I haven't had a problem since. I talked to a running specialist about it and they said thats typically the main problem is alot of people have weak calves and just need to make them stronger.
