  • 40 lines of iambic pentameter about the word '****'

This was submitted to me as a final class project (I have not received permission to reprint, but **** it!):

    Cacophony augments the thrust of words;
It yields a pleasure 'kin to fright'ning birds.
As ugly sounds from my mouth eminate
    Assuredly their use does satiate.
And of the words that bring me pleasure most
There is one that my voice just loves to host.
Beginning with a consonant so dear,
That labiodental's sound I love to hear!
The letter "ef" out of my mouth first comes,
It leads the op'ning march with beat and drums.
And next the vowel cries its sound so loud
As "you" comes forth with reason to be proud.
The word’s due end is marked with a harsh "kay"
And such it comes to pass that I will say
The most amazing word our language owns,
That regal word of words, that tone of tones!
An "ef", a "u", a "cee", a "kay" it takes,
The word that any phrase exciting makes!
A glorious word to speak so many times
The noise that makes my conversation shine!
A word which takes more meaning than the rest
And saying it is simply put, the best.
A savage phrase that comes from all men's gut
So powerful, on TV it is cut!
Yet naturally, we say it for its fun,
Because, for emphasis, it's beat by none!
Distasteful as my favorite word may be,
Pronunciation of it gives me glee!
So versatile as any part of speech,
But some may try to wash my mouth with bleach.
These jealous ones just wish THEIR favorite term
Could be like mine, so powerful and firm!
Its forceful discourse always makes me smile
For those who hate it, give it a fair trial!
As one day, dare I say it, you’ll be ****ed,
And in a nasty situation tucked!
    Be ready with its magic at your side;
Its utterance makes your spirit upwards glide!
So when you have a truly awful day,
Just say, “oh ****,” and make your merry way.

Very nice. A+ is my opinion. What do you teach?

Yes the poem is worth an A easily. The class is an interdisciplinary humanities class. We read some classsical poetry in that style, and also spoke a bit about profane language (it's a pet interst of criticize the notion of profanity because these country kids sometimes take it very seriously). So on both scores the poem is relevant to the class. It simply reminds that the word '****' has its place in our language and is indeed a useful word.

What? I would fail the hell out of that class.

It's my favorit word. About time there was a poem for it.
