  • Since when did spence become the boogeyman?

Im reading all sorts of nonsense about people saying brook is scared to fight spence, despite just having gone two weight classes up to fight golovkin.

Why is spence getting so much more hype than anyone else? Does an offesnive minded fighter beating someone with no punch power really impress people that much? America has a world class welterweight in thurman already but noone seems to be getting behind him, they are all viewing this unproven kid as the next big cheese.

Pretty sure weve been down this road before with fighters, where they demolish weak opposition, the hype machine goes into full swing and then when they step it up, they get found out. J rock was a pretty recent example. People dont learn that offensive fighters are going to look especially good against fighters who arent on their level. WHen someone fights offensively as spence, of course they are going to put these guys away quiker than less offensive fighter.

Spence has not fought anyone with decent pop and skills who can fight back. So can we stop saying that world class fighters like kell brook are ducking him.
And for the record im not saying spence wont be any good, im saying the hype is getting ridiculous for what hes done so far in his career, its almost like hes guaranteed to be the next huge superstar when he is literally not proven in the slightest so far.

Name names, please. Which posters said this and when?

I don't consider him a boogeyman. I am eager to see him perform against top opposition and it's frustrating to see guys like Kell Brook and Keith Thurman not give him his shot at greatness.

Brook took a beating for a payday in a higher weight class, That isn't bravery.

No one is hyping Spence. Posters are pointing out that Brook is suggesting he can't make 147 for the Spence fight while simultaneously discussing fighting Khan at 147. That gives off the appearance that he doesn't want to fight Spence because he is high risk, little reward.

Why are you so desperate to change the narrative to people hyping Spence up? If they are, and I haven't seen any evidence of this being as much as you claim, then its because they see a WW champion, top 3 at WW, doing everything he can to not fight Spence.

You do the exact same thing with Beterbiev tho? Just like Spence, he hasn't had the opportunity to prove himself against top level opposition, but you say Ward won't fight him, he would beat Ward (which may be true) etc. Why? Because you're judging him based on skill/eye test, which is fine, but why can't you apply the same logic with Spence instead of being double-standard? Do you not think Spence looks every bit as impressive as Beterbiev on the eye?

Pretty sure this post destroys this thread.

When is the OP going to stop owning himself?

Kell Brook needs to fight him. He cashed out in the Golovkin fight. Time for him to defend his belt against his Mandatory.

Spence is fighting and beating guys ranked 15 to 30 in the past years. Congratulations! Yet, people critizising GGG for facing like 8 top 10 guys in the past 4 years. #racism

                  errol spence

part of why he's the boogeyman(yes he is), is because of many reasons. he's quiet. u never hear him foolishly mouthing off. those are the ones that are in the right mind state and focused on winning, not talking. boxers know this. his demeanor is quiet, but he wants to take your head off from the first bell to the last. he isn't just offense. he's smooth, a smart boxer puncher, and he stays working the body. not too many people want to be in that type of a fight. so b4 u get to punching power, he has plenty of upside for a young fighter. and fighters all know he closed Floyd eye or black the ****, in the gym, and knocked Adrien broner out in the gym, too. if u really watch and know boxing, u can observe whether someone is talented, even on lesser competition. the argument that he hasn't fought anyone is simply a excuse when it's used by other fighters to avoid him. its the same bs they say about GGG. but the reason he hasn't so called fought anyone is because all the **** suckers who say he hasn't fought anyone, won't call and make an offer to fight him, so duh, of course he hasn't fought anyone! but even then, I disagree with that logic, because go up to someone like curtis stevens and say tell him he isn't nobody. do that to any person he fought so far. even gabe Rosado. and u will get lit up so ****ing fast. that nobody argument is for unintelligent boxing fans
