        Williams refused an immediate rematch.

Margarito did avoid Williams to fight Mosley though.

Because if he couldn't beat him with wrap once, he wouldn't win the second time, Paul was a beast at 147, no one fought him unless they had to. Cotto was a bigger payday, plus the Mexico-PR rivalry and Cotto was smaller and had late round stamina issues. Paul is too active for Margarito to win by decision.

Because he tried once, failed, then started cheating. But least get 1 thing straight, at least Margarito did try. The 2 top fighters in the world, both fighting at 147 wanted nothing to do with him.

It seems the consensus of the thread is that Margarito went after an easier fight for more money?

Why would he have a rematch when the Cotto fight was much bigger? Easier or not the Cotto fight was bigger and obviously if he won, he would be a big name. You don't become a huge name by beating Paul Williams. The Cotto/Margarito first fight had a strong gate and sold over 400,000 PPV buys. It would of been foolish to turn that fight down to avenge a loss.
