D-Day, or the invasion of Normandy is considered to be one of the turning points of World War II. The location of where this large-scale operation was going to take place was kept in complete secret until the Allied forces landed on Normandy on June 6th, 1944.
A double agent confused Germans about where this attack would take place, which led them to leave the actual locations without enough troops to defend. The German forces were very outnumbered. Some estimates say that there were 175,000 allied troops to 10,000! So why didn't Germany move more troops? In part, because Hitler was asleep!
According to reports, when the initial attack on Normandy started, Hitler was asleep. None of his generals dared to give the order to send more reinforcements without Hitler's permission. THe worst part is that no-one dared to wake him up either! Because of this many hours were lost on that battle.
