  • Comments Thread For: Nacho: Canelo Has The Tools To Defeat Mayweather

Hall of Fame trainer Nacho Beristain is giving WBC/WBA junior middleweight champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (42-0-1, 30KOs) a very good shot to pull off the upset on Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26KOs) on September 14th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

"Although the logical choice will be Mayweather [to win], but I think Canelo has the opportunity of a lifetime. You can not rule out the possibility of [Canelo getting the] victory. And if he achieves it, it would give a great gift to the Mexican fans," Nacho said.

    no, he doesn't
he's slow, lacks stamina, and fights in bursts
he's not consistent or fast enough to keep Floyd under control
his power is overrated too, he wouldn't KO Floyd with 1 big shot
Floyd's movement will tire him out within 8 rds
Alvarez gets dominated and possibly stopped late
if Floyd doesn't turn old, Alvarez is fucked

Glad to see nacho supporting canelo and not being a btch like marquez. But yeah canelo needs to let his hands go if he wants to beat mayweather. He has some great combos when he decides to throw them but his stamina is sht. He is also a great body puncher which will help him againts mayweather

Yup, Marquez is the bad guy for calling Canelo out.
Should just suck his dick like everybody else

**** canelo. Marquez is a boxing god and can say what he wants. Dont be mad because people see how suspect canelo is.

Floyd is going to reduce Alvarez to a slugger with a few defensive moves and counters

Alvarez is a good young fighter but lets be real here...He lacks both the experience and the skill set to defeat mayweather. The fighter who will ever be ablle to beat floyd is not only going to have a decisive size/reach advantage but will also be able to outbox floyd or at least be able to compete in dept. He will have an edge in hand/foot speed and be just as good defensively. The example I like to use is Vernon Forest (rip) in his bouts against a young..prime..undefeated shane moseley. Forest had the height/reach advantage, an excellent jab, could throw combinations, and landed much more than he got hit. He was able to neutralize moseley and keep him at bay. Those are the elements that will need to be at play if any current figther at 147 or 154 is going to blemish mayweather's record. Nacho says saul needs to be active)..throw more...Well, floyd is probably the best counter puncher in the game (along w/ marquez) & you only open yourself to get countered the more alvarez throws. His stamina is also an issue that will need to be addressed b/c mayweather doesnt get tired. Ive rarely even seen him breathe heavy during or between rds. This fight will be competitive for a few rds, but floyd is going to do what he always does..Fig his opponent out, step on the gas and cruise to another victory.

Why does it seem like before the fight Canelo was all world and the mayweather destroyer that money was afraid of, but now that the fight is signed, no one is giving Canelo a chance! Yea its at a catch weight of 152, but after the fight can we really say that he was weight drained after he comes in the ring 20lbs heavier? Then after mayweather beats Canelo, who will he have to fight to gain the world respect? Also can we really say that he was scared of Pac? Cuz I feel like Canelo is way more dangerous than Pac! Now if he fights him, mayweather gets no credit for beating him when mayweather is older! So pac fans I ask who is really the great?er fighter? Someone who was hyped up and was great, but not as much as everyone thought, or someone who really had no rivals from lack of competition

                  Around we go..

Mayweather has clearly established that the come forward/boxer/puncher is not the style that can beat him.
How many more of these type of guys does FM need to beat before people get it?
                  It's another cherry pick.

Let's look at a few guys who actually troubled Floyd.. Even if just for a few rounds.

                  Judah
                  Mosley
                  Burton (Agustus)

Not boxer/punchers.. But rather, quick handed..Light on their feet.. Finesse style fighters.
Guys with similar attributes to Floyd's.

Judah couldn't match Floyd for ring intelligence. It's fun to think about a Judah with more emotional control and higher ring savvy.

Mosley was too old.. Mosley at 135 would have given Floyd his toughest ever fight.

Burton.. Is well.. Burton. Never had a chance.

Canelo has a punchers chance.. If he can do what Castillo and Cotto did but only actually hurt Floyd.. Then maybe we have a fight..
Otherwise Floyd will cruise like he always does against these kinds of guys.

I think Alvarez plays right into Mayweather's hands. Unless he punches hard enough to bother Mayweather with every punch he lands, it will be a long, frustrating night.
