They do a ton. It's why guys like Miguel Cotto and so many others are brought up in a meaningful way and consistently getting exposure on TV, getting super rich and famous in the process compared to guys like Gary Russell jr and Sadam Ali who chose to do it on their own for years. Or we don't even have to look at the super stars as an example, compare them to someone more on there level like Crawford. Or look at Gamboa how his career was with Top Rank compared to post Top Rank. It's night and day, as Gamboa was featured on ESPN, Showtime, HBO and was on the verge of fighting Rios in a big fight which would lead to bigger fights, hell potentially even Pacquiao, compared to the gutter he's in now.

A good promoter behind you is everything in boxing. Granted, Top Ranks glory days look to be behind them but they still have major pull obviously.

Once you reach the mega star level that Mayweather, Pacquiao and Cotto got to, sure, you don't need them anymore and can do one fight contracts and be a free agent, but that's super rare and only after years and years of putting in work and reaching the top. The guys who try to do it on their own from the beginning rarely go far and if they do it's usually a long struggle (Hopkins for example but he eventually had to sign with Don King and then became a star after hooking up with Golden Boy).

They dont make money on their "multimedia" endeavors so what good is it?

            the put the money up.

just like in another other business, you want to start a business you look for investors to put the money up cause you dont have it, you look for partners who can make things happen for you.

Boxers dont have the money it takes to rent out venues etc and nor do they have the connects that can lead that road on that is their career to a goal.

take PBC for instance, you think Barrios or spence signed with haymon for any dumb reason? no they signed with haymon cause haymon can make things happen the money is secondary.

look at verdejo or ramirez you think they signed with top rank cause of the money? NO they signed with top rank can make things happen for them.

lomochenko signed with toprank cause they can make things happen for him (world title shot in his 2nd fight)

theirs more than what meets the eyes in promoters, any real buisness man know its all about network, who you know. You can be the best at what you do but without the right connects and hooks ups its means nothing.

You get an award for kicking yourself in the nuts with consistent contradictions in one post.

              Congrats!

Haymon has been in boxing for 17 years. He saw HBO's budget get cut year after year. He saw Showtime damn near dead in the water when it comes to boxing. He saw how this niche sport was becoming even more of a niche sport so what did he do? He went out and found people willing to invest half a billion dollars into the sport trying to grow it. But he's the bad guy.....While all the other major players in boxing are cutting costs he's the only one investing in the sport. But he's the bad guy.

it involves work, so you probably wouldnt understand it.

By the way, how many shows have YOU run? Its easy to talk smack about the things OTHER PEOPLE have actually done, when you just sit on the couch waiting for your EBT money to hit your account each month. Maybe you should start a gofundme page or something and raise the money to do a show? Nah, it would require work..........

Exactly... ita funny that an advisor actually went out and made it happen.

Meanwhile the promoters did absolutely nothing and now theh just cry or go out of business like OnePunch.

                    LOL

So basically all the promoter does is rent a venue (or a site fee), do public relations, and organize travel/lodging.

What are they actually doing that is that valuable?

If HBO turns down a fight, it seems like the promoter really has no ability to do anything to make the fight happen.
Promoters don't just take money from HBO and Showtime. They recruit talent, develop tslent, invest their own money often losing millions in the process. They create story lines that garner interest in fighters.

It's a tough job. It's why so many promotion companies have come and gone.
